President Obama Gesture to Marines Dubbed ‘Latte Salute’

Some are calling it the “latte salute.”

When President Obama stepped off Marine One at the Wall Street landing zone in New York City, en route the United Nations, he saluted two Marines at the bottom of the stairs as he held a coffee cup in the same hand.

The unusual gesture appeared in an Instagram video posted by the White House on social media. Obama is also wearing sunglasses as he arrived, with the first lady not far behind.

Huh???  Haven't heard or read a thing about this.

Sounds like DUmmies are inventing a new supposed right-wing scandal to further defend Obama.

He's lucky the Marines didn't salute him the way he deserved. :bigbird:

Last year he used Marines in dress blues to hold umbrellas for him and some muzzie.

Like Clinton and all current democrats he holds the military in contempt.

Sending them on a useless but deadly mission into the Ebola wards of Africa is an example.

Reagan, Bush, and Bush knew how to show respect for the men and women who served them ... probably because they did respect them. And unlike WJC and BHO, Reagan, Bush, and Bush served.

The Clintons' behavior regarding the Secret Service is well known.  It's no surprise to see the Obamas' share those feelings.

It could be ignorance or apathy.
Or both.

His failure to transfer the cup to his left hand prior to saluting the Marines shows one of 2 things about obama:

1. he has no respect for the Troops or
2. he is totally ignorant of Military Protocol.

Either one is shameful behavior for the CINC.

This DUmmy shows the contempt he and his ilk have for the Military and how they feel that obama has limitless powers to act in any manner he wants to.

I've never cared for this custom, even when President Reagan started it.

It looks awkward and improper for someone in civilian clothes, even the commander-in-chief, to salute a Marine in dress blues, and it's rarely a proper salute anyway.

It's even more out-of-place when contempt for the military is a core value of the modern democrat party.

The President can recognize his Marine detail without a half-assed civilian salute.

I would disagree.  As boots, we all had to learn the proper way to salute and learn it fast.

One of the jobs of being President is CINC.  Saluting his subordinates is one of the responsibilities that should go along with the job.

The left keeps telling us how smart obama is.  For a man who is so smart, why can't learn a gesture that is so simple to learn?  He is so on about how we can't offend muslims by doing this or offend another class of people by doing that, yet he continually offends menbers of the Military by his apparent lack of respect for them or their traditions.

It isn't required for the President  to return the salute, but if they are going to do it, then they should do it properly. Reagan did it out of a genuine respect for the military as did both President Bush's.

One of the jobs of being President is CINC.  Saluting his subordinates is one of the responsibilities that should go along with the job.

It wasn't done for the first two hundred years of the republic, until President Reagan began doing it in 1981.

I think President Reagan did it out of respect, but also to emphasize that there was a very new and different sheriff in town

A salute by someone like Clinton or the jug-eared muslim, men who have no respect for the military, is so hypocritical it's sort of insulting.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest is not sure if President Barack Obama is aware of the stir caused yesterday when he saluted Marines at the base of Marine One while concurrently holding his coffee cup.

“I don’t know. I haven’t talked to him about it,” Earnest told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell when asked if the president was aware of the controversy at hand.
