Quote
A Mississippi judge dismissed a lawsuit Friday that seeks to overturn six-term Sen. Thad Cochran's victory in a Republican primary runoff.

Judge Hollis McGehee said state Sen. Chris McDaniel, who lost to Cochran in the June 24 runoff, failed to start the election challenge on time.

McDaniel will announce next week whether he will appeal McGehee's ruling to the Mississippi Supreme Court, his attorneys said.

Who is Judge McGehee?

JACKSON, Miss. -- Retired Chancery Judge Hollis McGehee, who was appointed Friday to oversee a challenge of the June 24 Mississippi Republican runoff for U.S. Senate, he been in the legal profession for almost four decades. Highlights of his career include:

-- The Mississippi Bar directory shows McGehee was admitted to practice law in August 1977. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi.

-- From 1995 to 2005, he was a chancery judge in four southwest Mississippi counties: Franklin, Amite, Pike and Walthall. He now has a Lucedale address and is on a "senior status" list of retired judges who can be appointed to handle cases when local judges are recused.

-- He is now a Methodist minister, serving two churches near Lucedale.

-- As chancery judge in 1998, McGehee asked Pike County supervisors to strengthen regulations of adult nightclubs, saying: "Those kinds of businesses are very destructive to families."

-- In March 2000, McGehee voided the adoption of an adult attorney by an older woman. The attorney was 30 and his natural father was still living when he was adopted by the woman in 1986, and the woman left the attorney as her only heir when she died in 1997. Her grandnephew challenged the adoption after the woman's death, and McGehee voided it.
