Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown calls for Burger King boycott over Tim Hortons deal

Quote
Burger King's plan to buy Canadian donut chain Tim Hortons and relocate to Canada has cost it the patronage of one U.S. senator.

Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, released a statement Monday calling on consumers to boycott the home of the Whopper after Burger King announced late Sunday that it was in talks to buy Tim Hortons, creating the world's third-largest fast-food company in the process.

Burger King confirmed the deal on Tuesday; as part of the plan, Burger King would relocate its headquarters to Canada, a move that could lower its corporate taxes.

Let's see here shall we. It was the Democrats that pushed for higher corporate taxes. Canada has lower corporate taxes than America. Any Dem that calls for the boycott of Burger Kind should (drum rolls please)

When even the fast food companies (which should be a starting point, not a living wage job) are moving out of the country, what hope is there for the job market?  Good lord, the people in charge right now couldnt be responsible for a corner lemonade stand without messing it up. :banghead:

And of course, their first response to something that is COMPLETELY LEGAL, but takes away their ability to control someone else, is to 1)boycott as a punishment and 2) seek to legislate some form of tax penalty. They will make absolutely no effort to look into second order effects of those actions such as:
Boycotts lead to reduced revenue (well, when done right, when libs do one, it usually increases revenue a la Chick Fil A)
Reduced revenue leads to layoffs/closures
Layoffs and closures lead to higher unemployment
or
Tax penalties lead to reduced profits
Reduced profits lead to layoffs/closures
Layoffs and closures lead to higher unemployment

Given the chance, I always boycott the liberal boycotts. I'm a boycotting fool. :-)

Mod to add: I think I hear a BK burger calling me for lunch.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

I don't think I've eaten anything at BK this century, but the Ds might move me to do it. Maybe BK for lunch and CfA for dinner?

After CfA's recent  boycott/buycott experience, BK may send a thank-you-for-the-free-advertising card to this Senator's office!

Of course, the simple answer would be to reduce the corporate tax below the rate Canada charges, and have Canadian businesses moving here instead.  But of course, our current government refuses to do anything that would help our economy in any way.

My understanding is that BK is still going to pay the same rate on the income they make here.  Their reason for moving their HQ and merging with another Co. in Canada is because they plan on opening up 600 new businesses in other countries.

Not sure how we tax US corporations when they make money abroad.

When a company makes money in another country, they often pay taxes in that country, but if they bring those profits back to the US for investment or expansion, they have to pay a US tax on them also.
