an open letter to Omaha Steve
« on: August 23, 2014, 09:50:36 PM »

Steve, Steve, Steve.

Steve, Steve.

Steve dude, what’s going on?

Some months ago, you posted on democraticunderground that you were taking “early retirement” at the end of this year because of changes in the Omaha city employees’ pension plan that, if you waited until later, the monthly check and fringe benefits wouldn’t be nearly so generous.

And now you’ve dumped another story on democraticunderground, that you’re going to take early retirement because you’re ill.

Steve, Steve, Steve.

Dude.

You need to learn how to keep your stories straight; if there’s contradictions, one can’t possibly believe them even if they’re true.

If in fact you’re ill, I’m very sorry to hear that.

But--

If in fact you’re ill, why’d you feel compelled to tell the other story earlier?

A complaint frequently expressed by members of democraticunderground is that they seem to have no credibility among serious people, including members of their own political party, ostensibly your allies.

This is why, Steve, old pal, old buddy, old chum.

I truly hope the first version of your reality is the true one, but remain vexed and frustrated as to why you and your colleagues have a “need” to lie--lie about anything, including things of an innocuous nature where the truth doesn’t possibly harm one--and then after lying, fail to keep the story straight.

In Steve's defense, I'll say this:  It is entirely possible that the first condition was the case, but the second condition arose since then, and necessitated being the primary reason for OS' retirement.

I'm not saying that this is indeed the case; but the possibility of it occurring cannot be overlooked.

Now ,Now,  Frank,  life has some interesting turns in it.

Say Steve planned to retire while he could get max benefits.  So Steve began to make his plans for his future.        You know the expression that " God laughs when humans make plans."

All this time Steve tried to hop aboard the so called Gravy Train to have his boarding pass refused for years.

Could it be that lately his health insurance demanded he get a physical for his upcoming retirement and the tests showed he has a huge health problem.

Now Steve has to decide to change plans, to bring in the most benefits to himself and family, decide what to do about health care that will cost the least to him and family.

Cannot blame him or call him lying about his problems, just a twist in life that gets us all at some time.

Sorry, but no defense for the big guy at all, sir.

If the first condition was the case at the time the big guy made the announcement he was taking early retirement, but then later on this being ill thing arose, he's changing reasons in mid-stream.

He'd already made the decision before this being ill arose; the die was already cast, the Rubicon already crossed.

He can't allege the post facto reason is because he's ill.

In the best possible situation, the big guy'd admit that he decided to take early retirement because if he waited, the dollars and benefits would be less.....and now, later, he's ill.

Nothing more than that.

Never discount the fact that he may get even more benefits taking early retirement AND being ill to boot.
His plan may have a clause in it to pay for his health insurance if he's already sick when he retires.  Maximize them benes!

Wait a minute.

I thought that when the democrat insurance scheme came in, two things were supposed to happen.

First, it's free. No one has to worry about paying for coverage.

Second, the medical care provided by the democrat scheme is so good no one will ever die unless they want to.
