Oh my.

I'm about to wrap up "franksolich acquires a primitive harem," during which writing I've been ignoring the cooking and baking primitives, and so time to get back into the flow of things.

I'm still not sure how it's going to end--I write it off the cuff, first draft only, and write until I get tired--but I'm wondering if having the finale being the great-aunt threatening "franksolich" with the Gatling gun might not be a good climax.

Next up is going to be about when Crystal and Annette from Joplin, and Amber from Tucson, show up here for Labor Day.

Anyway.

what's for dinner - sat, aug 23?

my full-on grocery trip was cancelled by rain yesterday, so it's off to the store again today. chicken quarters and pork chops are on sale, so i'll get both and probably grill up the chops. no idea on sides, though. i'll figure that out at the store.

happy weekend

1. Happy weekend to you! We had a slow cooked veal roast with parmesan mashed

potatoes and wonderful gravy from the roast.

Also a grated carrot salad, just because I feel guilty if it's only meat and potatoes.

DH made an excellent blackberry and peach crumble today, which I think I'm going to sneak another piece of.

Hope you had a good shopping trip. I'm making my list for a trip on monday.

5. i think i would sneak myself through that entire crumble

that sounds killer your dinner doesn't sound too bad, either. and i have the same meat and potato guilt, too.

shopping trip was nice and easy and i shouldn't have to go back for another few weeks. we got hungry early, so we had an early dinner of leftover chicken chili and cornbread. i know i'll be hungry again later, but i probably won't cook tonight. we'll grill the chops tomorrow and i'll smoke the chicken quarters so we have food going into the week.

2. Leftovers from something we never ate.

Housemate's coworker's mother (or mother-in-law, I forget) died, so pretty much everyone in the office was making them up food this week so they wouldn't have the hassle of cooking. So she did them up a ham and pineapple thing, along with a small cake for dessert, and we kept the extra that wouldn't fit in the containers she bought to take them in.

6. i like ham and pineapple

my husband isn't crazy about it, so i never make it.

<<<if were the fizzy one's husband, would be damned sure she'd never make ham and pineapple, too.....either together or separately.  It'd be okay that she likes it, and she can have it if she wants it.....out of my sight.

4. Buttermilk pancake, bacon, eggs and sliced peaches.

Molasses and butter on the pancakes.

8. Just back from my sister's block party.

Fried chicken and cole slaw. Brownies for dessert.

<<<had one corn on the cob, as it was too hot to dine on more than that.

But instead of butter, drenched it with blue cheese salad dressing, and the customary salt-and-pepper.

I wanted to do that but I still have pizza left over from Friday.

At least they fed us after treating me like a rented mule for two weeks.
If you want to worship an orange pile of garbage with a reckless disregard for everything, get on down to Arbys & try our loaded curly fries.
