Donations to Internet Personas - A Good Idea?

I make most of my charitable donations to local organizations with proven track records of helping people. However, from time to time, I do donate to individuals who present a legitimate request for needed funds. Before I do that, though, there are a few things I check:

1. Does the person have a real name and will the person supply it in a private message or on the website where donations are accepted.? If not, I won't donate, since I can't confirm any of the information.

2. Where, in general, is the person located? A state and general area is enough. Again, this is information insist on knowing before sending a donation.

3. With that information in hand, I do a Google search to see if the information is accurate. I don't care about an actual address or anything like that. I just want to know if a person by that particular name exists at the location.

4. If the person is found on one of the websites that presents information about criminal activity or arrests, I do not donate. It may not even be the same person, but someone else with the same name. But I do not donate in that circumstance. My charitable funds are limited, so I'm careful where they go.

That's just my personal practice. Everyone has his or her own way of deciding whether to donate or not.

1. Everyone can send some money to me! I'm going to sell my truck soon

and will need extra money to get an old beater truck,

but for my new fun ride, a Fiat Abarth! If 100 people give me $50 that would be greatness!

2. Another OP on this? DUers have always been generous to other DUers

who are in need. We are all adults and can decide these things for ourselves.

I donate to homeless people DIRECTLY when I see them on the street, I don't care what they do with it, or even if once in a while, they don't perhaps need it.

Most liberals understand that it is the 'giving' that matters, and don't generally worry too much about the rest.

We are scammed far more by our own government and their Big Bank donors than we could ever be by someone who may not actually be starving, but isn't even close to the league of the crooks we just bailed out with TRILLIONS who collapsed the world's economies.

How does your personal practice help stop you from having to bail out some of the worst financial scammers in the history of the world, as many have described it?

Thanks for your concern, 'give and you shall receive'. Not a reason for giving, and receiving doesn't necessarily mean money, but it helps people not to become cynical and selfish to try to help others whenever they can.

And as another good DUer said, 'I don't care if they buy wine or beer or cigarettes' with it, as Right Wingers always used to 'warn' me about. Once I give it to them, it is THEIRS and none of my business.

New thread; the above's the whole thing so far.

Most of the "giving" the primitives talk about involves other peoples money.

Look nimrod, unless you pay money to acquire information on those sites, then no matter whose name you pull up it's going to say things like "Public Records? Background Check? Criminal Record?  Click Here!" Why don't you just come out and say you don't donate rather than trying to sound like you care?

So far no one has brought up the andyscam, the mother of all internet fundraising swindles.

All these years later, the utter goodness and honesty of the round red sodomite and his co-conspirators are indisputable.

Anyone suggesting otherwise instantly forfeits all DUmp cred.

Well of course coach forced a postponement of dear Andy's imaginary surgery at a hospital he never entered, but that didn't kill him.

It all began with an infection originating from dust bunnies in a filthy guest bedroom.

He was finally put down a couple of months later at a hospital out in Washington state, while coach was incommunicado on an extended trip with his business partner to an undisclosed location.

Poor addled grasswipe Judy Smith, in her exhaustive research, has nailed down all the details except how coach actually did it.

I don't think Judy grasswire is truly interested in solving the case, because the solution's practically within walking distance of her out in Oregon, and yet she refuses to put on her shoes and trod over there.

She's wasted all of her time trying to figure out how some guy 1500 miles away, who's never been west of Anaconda, Montana, pulled it off.

And the founder and boss of Scamdy lives less than forty miles away from her, out there.

I don't think she's really interested in solving the case.

It's like when I closed up the Scamdy web-site some years ago; before doing that, because I'm a nice guy, I contacted the lala_raw_raw primitive, the "journalist" who'd been covering the case, offering to transmit to her the entire files of Scamdy, all of the files, nothing left out.

About three-quarters of the stuff in those files was not public knowledge, and had never been posted anywhere.  And there were mountains of e-mails between members of Scamdy, and informants from Skins's island.  And shitloads of personal information about the primitives participating in the scam.

The "journalist" from rawstory.com never responded, and so six weeks later, I simply deleted it all.

The primitives have never been interested in finding out what really happened.

IMHO primitives don't want the truth, they want to affix blame.

It's easier, it doesn't require thought, and it allows them to feel good about themselves without being forced to examine the often times ugly facts.

I think the primitives would ignore the truth even if it was placed directly in front of them.

I know, call on me teacher I know how he done it.

Deep and devious plot, took months to bring it into play.    Coach and business partner, come fall when the deer hunters came about collected all the deer ticks and fed them deer blood they had collected and feed them frozen deer blood to keep them alive and allow them to multiply.

As the business partner traveled about staying in flea bag motels he also collected bed bugs also raising them on the deer blood, and they multiplied also.

Now the Coach has cats that will bring in all kinds of vermin, those alive were collected and caged.

Coach and business partner are a form of DR. Phibes , A throw back to Vincent Price., a big influence in their youth.

Where to get dust bunnies, easy, just vacuum the  floor of  any carpet and the fill up the canister in 15 minutes.

So off Coach and business partner go  for an extended vacation out of state.   They know where Andy lived and how to break into his home when there was no one around.     Under the living room furniture and under his bed all the hungry  blood needing vermin went wild when Andy with a health problem came home.  Fresh Meat and warm blood.

With all the symptoms of different diseases the Doctors could not pin down the  problem and just blamed it all on pre-existing conditions as the Doctors had hot dates at the country club that night. [ had told their wives they had to work late due to an emergency ]

EVIL and malicious is Coach and business partner, all that time spent on offing a person that will die any way,  in a few months or years.    No I do not think Coach or business partner would spend   a year or two on Andy,  -- perhaps there are better folks out there, to target, the child molesters that hit their family, darn I can think of a few things that will run them out of the community.

I think one of the greatest little vignettes in DUmp history is the scene where a DUmmy was allowed to rifle through all the incoming items in the "mail room" at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and then miraculously found a lost check to pay the sodomite's surgical bill.

The fraudster who came up with the idea for that tale deserves a place in the Bouncy Hall of Fame.
