ATLANTA — A plane has landed at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Cobb County where the first of two American Ebola victims is expected to arrive.

The plane touched down around 11 a.m. Saturday. The patient will be transferred to Emory University Hospital for treatment. Officials say the first patient to arrive is Dr. Kent Brantly.

The plane flew Brantly from Liberia to Atlanta. Officials said Brantly and American aide worker Nancy Writebol contracted the disease in the West African nation while working with the faith-based charity Samaritan’s Purse.

Another airplane for the second patient should arrive later on.

Odd coincidence that the Syfi station has been playing 3-4 movies  for the last few days movies about some kind of pandemic with the brave drop dead beautiful female scientist saving the world.

Seriously now, with the news that the CDC and related labs have no idea of what they have in stock for killer diseases in their freezers, I am not really very happy about the two Doctors being brought back to this part of the world. 

Some Scientist was on a talk show trying his best to down play the dangers of this disease, I do not know why some of us laugh at the sight of some high mucky muck when they say or do really stupid things.  This Doctor reminded me of the 80's doctors that came out and said no one could get AIDS if they were not GAY.

He went on to say that the disease was the fault of the culture of the those that contacted it.  Close bodily contact, caring for ill family or washing the dead, all their fault when we still do not understand what the heck this disease is.

Remember the Nationally know Doctor with a weekly spot on a big time country wide program that a couple of years ago came on to give two of the moderators  flue shots.?        He was so caught up in his own ego he accidently used the same needle on both of them. 

Very BLACK HUMOR, I about bust a gut watching the faces of all three of them when they realized what he had done.  Here he was pontificating on how smart he is and then he makes a mistake that scared the living crap out of everyone.    OOPSIE   

Is it any wonder that some of us get a magic marker to write on our body's the location and what needs to be done complete with arrows point to the area that needs to be operated on ? 

Paranoid, kind of , The Surgeon who in the middle of a operation for removal of a brain tumor left the patient with skull open to cross the street and cash his pay check,   then the surgeon that one week before I was to go into his hospital amputated the wrong leg on a man.

You best believe I had my leg covered in directions of what leg and where to go, just one problem a very involved nurse noticed the ankle band for allergies was on the wrong leg, she corrected the mistake of another nurse, my problem was for Penn. so bad I could not even eat food with Bean oh .

Not to mention the hit men, the baby killers that do abortions and kill baby's for a price. These are also Doctors and as the time from the beginning believe in the witch doctors to cure the ills of the human race.

Our Doctors are very well educated but they are human, remember Doctor Death ?

The idea of bringing back two people with a potential world wide pandemic makes me think of the times people were not allowed to end up in ports as they carried a disease that filled our cemetery's  with the small stones of children they spread the disease to.

Worried about myself, no, but I do worry about the children coming into the country with every disease we can think of. Chicken pox can cause dread full things to the baby of a pregnant woman.

Stupid, stupid idea.  The missionaries could have been treated where they were.  American hospitals never contained MRSA or VRE or C-diff. 

No reason to bring that virus to this country.  Irresponsible.

My take on this is they want to try the experimental vaccine thats in development on them.

Remember, we've had scientists studying Ebola and Marburg in this country since the late 70's.

BTW this man that was brought over to Atlanta is well known by some Christians my wife and I know in the Atlanta area. One preacher we know in particular has known this man's family for years as he used to preach in Texas. This Dr. is a conservative both economically and socially. My guess is if the left were to find that out they've find a reason to want him dead.

Experimental drug likely saved Ebola patients

The experimental drug, known as ZMapp, was developed by the biotech firm Mapp Biopharmaceutical Inc., which is based in San Diego. The patients were told that the treatment had never been tried before in a human being but had shown promise in small experiments with monkeys.

According to company documents, four monkeys infected with Ebola survived after being given the therapy within 24 hours after infection. Two of four other monkeys that started therapy within 48 hours after infection also survived. One monkey that was not treated died within five days of exposure to the virus.

Knowing his dose was still frozen, Brantly asked if he could have Writebol's now-thawed medication. It was brought to his room and administered through an IV. Within an hour of receiving the medication, Brantly's condition dramatically improved. He began breathing easier; the rash over his trunk faded away. One of his doctors described the events as "miraculous."

By the next morning, Brantly was able to take a shower on his own before getting on a specially designed Gulfstream air ambulance jet to be evacuated to the United States.

So this is why they perhaps brought him back? the experimental drug might be working and they want him here to observe and test if that is the case? Still a risk imo but understandable a bit more why it was taken if the potential for cure was there. Only problem I see with our cumbersome FDA process and then patenting and waiting to produce enough of the drug well 80% of the population could be obliterated if the virus made it's way outside before the first mass production met its intended benificiares.

The article mentions a bureaucratic "loophole" that allows bypassing of FDA testing and approval in certain cases.  Ain't the gummint grand?  At that point, it becomes a question of how much serum can be manufactured.

I came across an article that I can't seem to find again, but it mentions that simple bleach and water will kill the virus outside the body and that is what basic decontamination procedures include once victims are removed from the area.

Mount Sinai patient tested for Ebola virus

UPPER EAST SIDE (WABC) --
 Mount Sinai Hospital is performing tests on a patient who had recently traveled to a West African country where Ebola has been reported, the hospital says.

A male patient with high fever and gastrointestinal symptoms came to the hospital's emergency room on Monday morning, officials said.

The hospital says the patient has been placed in strict isolation and is undergoing medical screenings to determine the cause of his symptoms.

"All necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of all patients, visitors and staff. We will continue to work closely with federal, state and city health officials to address and monitor this case, keep the community informed and provide the best quality care to all of our patients," the hospital wrote in a statement.

Mt. Sinai is following what the Center for Disease Control recommended last week when they sent a Health Alert to doctors and hospitals.
