10. Automobiles were among the worst inventions ever.

Ranking right up there with handguns and fossil fueled power plants.

The final death toll from fossil fuel will be billions of people, and millions of species.

That said, California only inspects for smog, and we have a state buyback program for cars that can't pass.

A car that has numerous mechanical faults and can't pass the smog test without a major repair simply isn't worth keeping unless it's an honest classic vehicle worthy of a full restoration.

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/avrp/avrp.htm

Still, it seems to me, many cars get recycled needlessly, raising the price of used car in general and necessitating the manufacture of new cars. One of our family cars reached clunker status and was eligible for "retirement" but I fixed it myself with scrapyard parts and it's passed two smog tests since.

Was it worth the effort I put into it?

But it's one less new car that has to be made for now, and besides I hate buying cars, new or used.

This gives insight into why CA is so ****ed-up: too many voters like this.

For a species so loathe to breed why are there so many Proglodytes?

Well the main reason is being one is easy. Another reason is there are certain personality traits out there geared towards evil. Another one is the leftist propaganda machine, even though they have been in solid control for six years, infiltrated the Republican party and have almost every form of media on their side, they still like to view themselves as a rebellious counter culture.

They're like Manbearpig, it's not their own birth, consumption, or appetites they abhor, it's everyone else's.

Exactly!!!!

Hollywood star buys a Prius and parks it in his garage, then jumps in private jet and flies to Paris for dinner but he's done his/her bit for green energy and saving the planet.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Can't he thank the whole cash for clunkers things for that? BTW forcing up prices of used cars to the people who most need those to stay reasonable to secure reliable transportation when an older car goes.

His laws are f*ed up but no doubt a liberal was behind every damn one of them. Of course, it makes more sense on so many levels to keep the older car if you can and reasonably fix it up. Saves the consumer money which makes it more likely they can save for a real emergency. In a lot of ways it's better for the environment for the reason he mentioned: its salvaging something instead of building another.

that's the truth... old cars are the bit of the market I play in.  That program absolutely wiped out the small salvage yards and wasted perfectly good engines.  The prices are only just now settling down to where they should've been all along.

Used pick up trucks seem to have taken a big hit and they are still way over priced.

we got really lucky with the latest purchase... sold my wife's 97 suburban for exactly what we paid for it and picked up a 2001 yukon xl for 300 more. the deals are out there occasionally, not like they used to be though.

Not long ago, DUmmy hunter talked about living in his car, so I'm not sure why he's so down on automobiles:

It's a day I have to crush somebody. Talk me down, please.

But the suicide-bomber-berserker gene is strong in me, even as I claim to be a gentle soul.

Is it correct if I attribute these horrors to our broken society rather than myself? Am I shedding some personal responsibility?

Maybe all I need is a hug, but I'm an autistic spectrum fellow who doesn't like to be touched, near Star Trek Vulcan in that respect.

<DU mode> But...but..but....older cars are horrible on gas. Newer cars are cleaner and won't harm the environment. Why not take the older cars, fix them up with better engines (like electric), and give them, free, to the homeless or those less fortunate on welfare?  <DU Mode off>

You have to ask???!?!?!?!?
