Is Obama changing his mind about abortion?
« on: July 07, 2008, 12:05:45 PM »

the only change you can trust is that you can trust the he is constantly changing now.  he is moderating
his positions on all of the issues, it seems, but this one is liberal orthodoxy.

heh.  "those are my views.  and you you don't like 'em . . . I'll be glad to change 'em." :-)

Is Obama changing his mind about abortion?

CHICAGO, July 7 (UPI) -- A legal expert says a recent statement by presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama brings into question Obama's stand on abortion.

The senator from Illinois was trying to clarify earlier remarks when he said that he doesn't believe "mental distress" should be considered a sufficient exception to bans against late-term abortions, The Chicago Tribune reported Monday.

"My only point is that in an area like partial-birth abortion having a mental, having a health exception can be defined rigorously," Obama added.

ABC News legal correspondent Jan Crawford Greenberg wrote on her blog that Obama's statement leaves open the possibility that he supports significant narrowing of abortion rights.

Greenberg is a University of Chicago-trained lawyer.

"So Obama, it seems to me, still is backing away from what the law says," Greenberg writes. "And backing away from a proposed federal law (of which he is a co-sponsor) that envisions a much broader definition of mental health than the one he laid out this week."

I can't wait to see them tear into him. He ran left of Hillary and now he's trying to run back to the center? Zig zag much Oooobama??

The only saving grace is that the Devoted won't let things like pass. The scarier proposition is that the Ooooobama campaign may try to calm the Devoted and convince them that he's "just saying things to get elected" and that he'll run back to the left of Stalin once he's in office.

And as for the issue at hand (late term abortion) how anyone could see his backpedaling as "signifigant narrowing of abortion rights" is beyond me. I'm jumping up and down at the idea of him backpedaling even though I know it's all political doubletalk and not worth the paper it's printed on. Then again, there is a world of difference between myself and those that would get sad about not being able to murder children who are so close to being born naturally.
I can see November 2 from my house!!!

Forget change, bring back common sense.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

changing his mind on abortion is a bit of a stretch.

here is a more complete rendition of his remarks:
Quote
"I have repeatedly said that I think it’s entirely appropriate for states to restrict or even prohibit late-term abortions as long as there is a strict, well-defined exception for the health of the mother. Now, I don’t think that 'mental distress' qualifies as the health of the mother. I think it has to be a serious physical issue that arises in pregnancy, where there are real, significant problems to the mother carrying that child to term. Otherwise, as long as there is such a medical exception in place, I think we can prohibit late-term abortions."

Obama hasn't changed his position on any subject. He's still a socialist SOB. He's pandering for votes. When it comes to crunch time, his true color of red will emerge.

I don't believe a damn thing he says. He's a 1st class liar.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.
