No doubt.  The plane was flying far above the maximum range of any shoulder-fired SAM, which are really only designed to make annoying ground attack and tactical support aircraft go away.

I heard a quote this morning to the effect that said missile requires two years of training to become able to operate it.  Seeing that this Ukranian 'crisis' started only this year, that would suggest involvement of . . . ?

I read that but chalked it up to hype.

Does anyone believe the Russian army could maintain and operate anything that complex?
