primitives call the results of their own policies "idiots"

70% of Millennials believe in guaranteed housing, health care, and income for America's poorest

Two-thirds agree that “government is usually inefficient and wasteful.” In 2009, that number was just 42 percent. Across a range of 15 issues (including privacy, drug policy, taxes, spending, health care, and more), neither party wins a majority of Millennials. About six in 10 believe that government regulators are the tools of the special interests they are supposed to police and that federal agencies routinely abuse their power. A solid majority (55 percent) says businesses are paying their fair share of taxes.

However, such crypto-libertarianism is countered by a very strong belief in the need for government to provide a safety net. Fully 70 percent say they believe in guaranteed housing, health care, and income for the country’s poorest people. When taxes are not mentioned, 54 percent of Millennials say they want a “larger government with more services” and just 44 percent say they want a “smaller government with fewer services” (these figures are in line with results from Pew).

Those percentages flip when Millennials are asked if they want a bigger government with more services even if it means paying higher taxes. In the latter case, 57 percent support smaller government and just 41 percent insist on bigger government—a finding that is consistent across gender and economic groups. They’re young, but they weren’t born yesterday. Millennials have a keen awareness that Social Security and Medicare are living on borrowed time and borrowed money and that today’s youth are unlikely to get anything out of such programs.

If there’s a unifying thought among Millennials, it’s that they want to be able to make decisions for themselves. Large, consistent majorities (even among self-identified Republicans) favor pot legalization and marriage equality and think that individuals should be allowed to eat trans fats, drink whatever size soda they want, gamble online, and smoke e-cigarettes in public places.

1. They want guaranteed health care and lower taxes

They're brainwashed idiots

The Dems have been preaching that healthcare is a "right." And "rights" are those things which cost us nothing monetarily. That's part of what makes it a "right."

So naturally healthcare being a "right" shouldn't cost anything. The gov't should just pay for it. That's what the Dems have been saying.

I'm surprised the Dr. J primitive is upset with the handiwork of his own ideology.

3. No they're not, they're young.

Yeah they've been bombarded with corporate propaganda but that doesn't mean they're brainwashed, just misinformed, and that being the case, accurate information is all that's needed.

It's the heartless selfish conservatives who have been brainwashed.

Except for blaming conservatives, even the harpy is changing her tune. Accurate info like "You know how we said healthcare is a right and shouldn't cost anything? Well, what we really meant was...."

Government For the People, for the people, for the people.
Paid for by Santa Claus.

Gov't IS Santa Claus according to liberals.

Why are you dopes backpeddling on what you've said for years?

5. That seems correct. Here on DU when there is an OP saying the government should give us housing or education you get a rude reply if you ask who will pay for it.

Nice of you to notice.

And the answer continues to remain a mystery.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

As if interacting with government at its most basic level isn't empirical evidence that a bureaucracy's natural state is bloat and inefficiency.  No, those people are simply misinformed.

19. People talk about younger Americans supposedly being so liberal-leaning, but just like older generations, they seem to be all over the map politically when I read this piece. It says that while many think that government should provide guaranteed housing and health care, many also think that government is inefficient and they oppose paying higher taxes for those services. But how else would the country pay for that stuff, though?

Sounds like your problem, boofer.  Libs have been telling them it's all free, so you tell them you lied.

So these youngsters realize that gov't is inefficient, but they want all the freebies and don't want to pay for it just like the Dems told them they would deliver. And they'll likely vote for Dems.

Here's my question for the libs: What happens when you have to tax these current youngsters to oblivion for things you told them would be for free while telling them gov't is really efficient? IOW what's going to happen when they realize you lied to them? Maybe they're as stupid as you and will believe it's all the Republicans/conservatives fault. But that isn't going to give them what you said would be free, or keep their taxes low, or make gov't efficient. In non-bizzaroworld, you just painted yourself into a corner.

Libs better hope these youngsters are as stupid and gullible as they are and that bizzaroworld continues.

I saw an NBC news report that "millenialls" value their Smartphone more than wearing deodorant, so yeah, I really trust their judgment.

Not surprised.

I think if you promise people the world for free, and then don't deliver, there's a good chance they're going to eventually turn on you. The only reason they won't, like I said, is if the libs who lied to them can continue to get them to believe their lies. But eventually, even that will run its course, and the ones who pointed fingers at others for years will become the ones having fingers pointed at them.

How many upon a promise that it will be someone else paying for it would flip right back?
This is why the dem playbook has not changed in 75 plus years.
