Car Thief Finds Bomb-Packed Van in New York City
« on: July 05, 2008, 10:14:46 AM »
A car thief on Thursday night found a bomb-laden van wired to detonate by remote control that likely had been sitting there for more than five months, sources said.

Investigators believe the homemade explosives found on a Brooklyn street in the Ford Econoline belonged to Yung Tang, 39, a Chinese national. He has been behind bars since he was caught Jan. 29 in Wallingford, Conn., with nearly identical bombs in his Mazda MPV minivan.

Also found in the MPV were two silencers, four hollow-point bullets and two radio-controlled detonators. Days after that arrest, the NYPD searched his Brooklyn house and found yet anther van, a Ford Explorer, full of similar explosive devices.

In May, Brooklyn prosecutors charged Tang with attempted murder for allegedly planting a bomb near the car of a commercial tenant he was trying to evict. The victim lost his foot in the 2002 blast.

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

As much as criminals disgust me, I don't think he should be charged either.

A thief who broke into the vehicle as it was parked on 53rd Street near Second Avenue saw the explosives, then drove the van from the mostly residential block to a remote location near the waterfront.

The thief, who has an arrest record, then phoned a cop he knew from a previous run-in with the law.

Damn.  While stealing cars is wrong, he did the right thing in this case and even risked his own life doing it.  Sometimes the evil that men intend is used for the greater good.

The guy could have just turned around and walked away and never told a soul.  He wouldn't have risked being caught, and possibly killed.

It took true courage to do what he did, so I believe letting him off the hook was appropriate.

Exactly.  Thieves have a conscience sometimes.  By driving the van away from a populated area first and then calling the police, he should receive a huge financial reward, and should be getting a call or two from either the counter-terror unit of the NYPD or said counterpart with the FBI.

Maybe this is God's way of telling him, "Time to start doing good."

Let's hope and pray not.  If I were that cop, I'd try taking this guy under my wing and lead him in the right direction.

I admire an honorable crook.  He should receive a medal.  Actually, someone else should be given a medal and he should be allowed to steal it.
