Feel betrayed by your masters yet, DUmmies?
Hey - where do you people live? I'm moving. My last water bill was just under $200.00 and I was HAPPY. I don't use my sprinklers and we're a family of 4. I've had a plumber out and checked the needle on the meter - can't find a leak anywhere.
Yikes. I wish I knew what to do - had a plumber crawl all under the house, and I've watched the needle stay still for hours until I run in and flush a toilet. Unless there's something leaking only when it runs.... My thought is that the meter itself is bad, but of course the City does nothing.
Yikes - I feel like I'm threadjacking. But I need the advice so......My most recent bill, and the lowest I've received in a while, came to $176.74.The usage period is: 4/18/14-6/9/14 so, not quite 2 months.Usage: 10,472 gallons
The average American family of four uses 400 gallons of water per day. On average, approximately 70 percent of that water is used indoors, with the bathroom being the largest consumer (a toilet alone can use 27 percent!).
http://www.epa.gov/WaterSense/pubs/indoor.htmlYou're well below that. Is your bill in gallons or cubic feet? There are 7.48 gallons in 1 cubic foot and our bill is for cubic feet.
They show hundreds of cubic feet and gallons: 14 CCF and 10,472 gallonsWater: $73.86Sewer: $52.14Wastewater treatment: $49.70Late fee: $1.04 (yeah, they've been so huge I pay them piecemeal)
I would talk to some neighbors or other people in the area to see what their bills are, because that sure seems like they are charging way too much.
Leak Detection: A good method to check for leaks is to examine your winter water usage. It's likely that a family of four has a serious leak problem if its winter water use exceeds 12,000 gallons per month.
