primitives discuss what's for supper Tuesday evening

Oh my.

It's now been ten days since dear old sweet Lu performed her major responsibility as hostess of the cooking and baking forum, starting a thread.

It must be one whale of a hookworm infestation she's dealing with, one supposes.

What's for Dinner, Tues., June 17, 2014

One thing I'll make today is a cold kale salad. I have lots of pretty Russian kale at just the right stage.

after which a picture, but never mind

Whatever recipe I choose, it will have nuts in it. I love the way kale and nutty flavors go together.

1. chicken parmesan.

Although I'm thinking I'll use some spaghetti squash instead of regular spaghetti.

The heatwave is doing my raspberry patch some good; 3 cups of berries from this morning's pick. The rest of the garden needs watered, though, the garlic is yellowing off too quickly, and the sugar snaps are not going to be able to take this much heat, so it's time to harvest what I can and maybe rip those out and plant regular green beans. Just not enough cool weather long enough this spring.

2. Beautiful pic!

I really like raw kale. Wish we had room to grow it!

No clue about dinner here...Bill* is off tonight and we need to shop!

4. Mine grows in a patch about 4 x 3

It's so pretty you could even grow it as an ornamental.

Much to my surprise, when I was cutting the kale today, I see my Toscano that I planted from seed came up, too! So I have both that and my Russian kale.

Toscano goes by other names. I think one of them is "dinosaur" kale?

5. Hamburger.

I have some pretzel rolls from Trader Joe's and will have it on that with a slice of red onion and tomato. Sliced tomatoes on the side.

What is it with these idiots and their kale in every-frigging-thing??

We went to a music and food truck festival at a winery a couple weeks ago and one of the trucks had KALE in every single thing. Finally convinced them to take it off the cold lobster roll I wanted to try (good roll, btw). Wanted to try the lobster bisque but I was afraid there was kale in it.  :panic:

I was just going to ask the same question.

I don't get why so many of them like kale.

Wtf is kale.  Meat and potatoes person.

It's just lettuce, but instead of being wholly green, it's got some purple in it too.

But other than color, same thing.

7. curried brown rice salad

with leftover roast turkey breast, left over sugar snap peas, leftover sauteed zucchini, currants, halved red grapes, toasted sliced almonds and a yogurt-may-cider vinegar, curry, honey and shallot dressing. I made it this morning and it's in the fridge for when I get hungry.

8. This recipe has all of my family hooked on kale salad.

http://www.csmonitor.com/The-Culture/Food/Stir-It-Up/2013/0711/Citrus-massaged-kale-salad

I vary it a bit, using pecans or walnuts, sometimes adding grated carrot, a little chopped green onion, but basically I make it according to the recipe. I've got some in my fridge right now.

Just a reminder of NJCher's potential:
Her go-to recipe, puke stew

I just had to do it.

Curried brown rice salad sounds just awful.

I hate weird salads.  I have a relative who mixes marshmallows and cabbage and calls it "salad."

I've put crushed pineapple in coleslaw.

I as an adult have eaten some weird food.  As a kid the first time Dad made spare ribs I was as I remember it a bit freaked out.  "Dad, are we to eat bones" ?

Chinese food---OH that was a good one-----then on to my first Pizza at 18 something and there were anchovies on it--------

Polish food and German food , all the new tastes from the world I had never tasted eating a bland diet of the family.

Well, it's now been eleven days since dear old sweet Lu last did her job as hostess of the cooking and baking forum.

And because dear old sweet Lu isn't doing her job, the interest of the drone primitives lags.

1. chicken braise with artichokes and mushrooms...

....and a pilaf. Alongside, a salad of sugar snap peas and bleu cheese crumbles.

Yeah, yeah, sure, sure.

The pie-and-jam primitive probably just fried up sliced carrots on the stove.

4. Lemon chicken

Mashed potatoes with gravy.

Steamed veggie medley of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots.

It was too good and I foolishly over-ate with recycle/garbage night ahead of me...

<<<went to town to the convenience store and bought a $1.79 slice of Canadian bacon pizza for supper; it's too hot here to dine much.
