Al-Qaeda seizes Iraq's third-largest city as terrified residents flee

Militants storm northern city of Mosul, freeing thousands of prisoners, as Iraqi prime minister declares state of emergency and offers to arm citizens who volunteer to fight against militants

By Colin Freeman, agencies

2:44PM BST 10 Jun 2014

Al-Qaeda seized control of Iraq's third biggest city on Tuesday, freeing thousands of imprisoned fellow fighters in a series of jailbreaks and sparking a mass exodus of refugees.

The assault on the city of Mosul, 225 miles north west of Baghdad, saw the Iraqi army retreat to the outskirts after a sustained assault by men armed with heavy machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades.

As well as seizing the main governorate building - forcing the city's governor to flee - the gunmen were also reported to have gained control of three different jails, numerous police stations and an airport, where several military planes and helicopters were based.

The loss of the city, home to around one million people, is potentially a huge challenge to the Iraqi government, which has been struggling to quell a regalvanised al-Qaeda insurgency for more than two years.

As residents fled in their thousands, they spoke of seeing militants raising al-Qaeda's black flag from buildings, and of newly-released prisoners running through the streets in yellow jumpsuits.

But . . . but . . . but they were supposed to like us when Obama left Iraq! :whatever:

I can't make up my mind whether Obama is Shiite, Sunni or just plain shit?...well, actually, I'm only confused about the first two.

I tell you one damn thing, he has dashed every attempt I try to reconcile that he is Christian.  He can't be Christian.  He can't.  I always thought it was stupid to say he was a closeted Muslim but he hasn't done one thing to act like he wasn't.

But hey!  Its not like we simply Cut and Ran because it was politically difficult to do the right thing right?

Right?

Nah im kidding.  THis entire mess is because Obama is such a ***** that he wouldnt do what was right and make sure we destroyed AQ before we left Iraq.  All that hard work that our men and women did was destroyed when Obama pulled us out.  Nice work Obama, youve created a worse situation than the one you inherited(like all the others) and were probably going to have to go back into Iraq when they start to sell oil and turn into a full blown terrorist state.

Once the religion of peacers consolidate Iraq, look for them to export their terrorism.
We used to have the religion of peacers committed to a relatively small geography half way across the world.

Well Gina, I am sure you and most Christians have sung the song in church, Faith Of Our Fathers------Holy Faith.

Take one young male with both father and step father Muslim, remove him from the family of his mother to a land far away and train him up in the faith of his Father and Step-Father.

This child identifies with the males in his life and a mother who shows no problem with the life style or religious training.  He eventually has siblings that are being raised to conform to the society they are also being raised in.

After 12 or so years + suddenly he and just he is sent to a foreign country to live with his mothers parents.   He has to leave behind his Mother and his siblings to head out for a new strange world.   -------Why if the grandparents were so wealthy not take the lot of the children born to their daughter ?

So many questions,  about perhaps the most dysfunctional family outside of Little Boots in history.

How to explain to a male child why his father  has no contact with him, how to accept his fathers life style in Africa and learn to call his fathers wives Aunt or grandmother.

The Children brought into his fathers marriages he is told are his brothers and sisters or Aunts and uncles. No blood relationship just traditional relationships.

It was the money his grandparents had to arrange everything from his birth in America down to his education and entering into society.

I have wondered for years about the timing of his Grandmas death just before she could or would give the low down on his life.

DNA would help to find out just who Obama is, but that will come up 100 years from now.

Analyst: Fall Of Baghdad Would Make Current Gas Prices ‘Look Like A Bargain’

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Oil industry analysts are warning a brewing civil war between Islamic militants in Iraq could potentially send gas prices soaring here in the Southland.

KNX 1070′s Pete Demetriou reports the price of crude oil has shot up to $107 per barrel – the highest in 10 months – on reports that soldiers with the al-Qaeda-inspired Islamic State of Iraq and Syria captured two towns in an ethnically mixed province northeast of Baghdad.

This could lead to higher gas prices.

200 U.S. contractors surrounded by jihadists in Iraq

About 200 Americans under contract with the Department of Defense at Balad Air Force Base in Iraq are trapped by the al-Qaida-inspired jihadists who have seized control of two cities and are now threatening Baghdad, according to WND sources.

The sources, private contractors who have recently returned to the U.S. from Iraq, said Friday their former colleagues effectively have been abandoned by the U.S. military and are fighting for their lives against an army of jihadists surrounding the base who belong to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.

We should pull all troops out of the Middle East and let these savages go at it. If they gas each other, behead each other, chop each other up with machettis, we can not help these barbarians. It was clear years ago, that the new government in Iraq would never be able to have a military that would defend its self. Now, they want our help. F..k them. We spent too much blood, lives and money. I really do not give a sh!t. For once let's keep our nose out of it no. No more supplies, weapons, money, no nothing for them.

After S.H. was captured, we should have left. President Bush screwed up by sending troops in there.

So leaving an army of vicious offshoots of al Qaeda to have their own state and an income of billions in oil revenues won't come back to bite America?

Right.

Lesson to be learned, never-ever trust a democrat to protect the country. Democrats always identify more with the enemy than with their own country.
