Gunslingers and Outlaws
« on: June 09, 2014, 01:04:46 AM »
Wow, you people who live in the western part of this country had a lot of action going on from 1850 to 1891. Learned all about early American rifles, The Daltons, The Youngs, The James', Wyatt Earp(yes I know who he is) Billy the Kid(yes him too) Bloody Bill Anderson and Quantrille were not very nice men, however. Apparently, one gun stands at high noon were not that common at all.
Also the cow herders had major issues with the sheep herders. Missouri and Kansas had some horrific border wars.
And for you smart Alecs(yes you know who you are :o) no pop quizzes eh?

MO and KS were also the grounds for the Kansas-Nebraska Act and the Missouri Compromise.  There is a lot of history tied up in the borders of those states.

Hi, sea! It's good to hear from you again.

The history of America's westward expansion, from rifles to railroads, is really interesting. I'm glad you're learning about it.

Glad you find it interesting.  Come on out and see the places.

I live in the area of the Johnson County War and the Hole in the Wall.  Plus, forts and sites of battles.  Sometimes things still get a little "western" over land and water.

On a ranch east of Big Sandy, MT, we wandered upon two places, one an unusual cabin and the other a dugout on a knob with great views that turned out to have been used by Big Nose George.  I'd never heard of him until the county historian filled us in and got us reading about him and those he ran with.  The county and university types were pretty excited.

Big country.  Lots of room to be what one wants, be it for good or evil.
