All of the DUmmies' GBCW posts are written as if DU (and other forums) are important.  They aren't, but for many of the DUmmies posting on them takes up a tremendous amount of time - both at home and (for a very few) at work. The 'work ones' can be found with the occasional 'NSFW' warning or 'can't get pics on work computer' or some such.

And, they think it matters to someone that they depart.

Yeah, that's what gets me.

I will admit I sort of miss some primitives who depart (but usually they're not the ones who announce they're leaving; they just sort of go away quietly without notice), but really, nobody's indispensable, including of course myself.

However, I'm vain enough--being human--that I've made arrangements for perpetuation of franksolich if something unfortunate were to befall me.  I already asked the administrators a long time ago that in case of my demise, it not be announced in a public forum, that it be kept a secret.

And then they're to assign the screen-name "franksolich" to some other member so as to seamlessly perpetuate the Scourge of the Primitives, without the primitives having the slightest idea.

I don't understand the DUmmies need to broadcast the fact that they're not going to post anymore.  I assume it's their need for everlasting drama in their lives.

This is kinda like that semi-regular at a bar that no one really knew who suddenly declares that they are never coming back again.  Followed by comments by patrons such as "Who was that dude anyway?". And the bartender will retort "doesn't matter, he was a pain in the ass and didn't tip well".

I don't think so.  It sounds as if someone close to the DUmmy is dying--maybe its' means of support (a parent)--and it's mad that it'll have to be the executor of the estate.
