This math question from an admissions test for an elementary school in Hong Kong is going viral in China.

According to ChinaSmack, it was the second-most-popular post on Chinese microblogging site Sina Weibo on June 5, when it was published.

The question was part of an admissions test for first-graders. They had 20 seconds to answer. Can you solve it?

I see it now and yeah it is 87.

It is hardly fair, this is suppose to be a math test.

It's kind of misleading.  When you look at it upside down the eights are also upside down. (the bottom part of the eight is slightly smaller, rather than larger)

It's a trick question.  Everyone knows Asians can't park.

Asians do math a bit differently then the rest of the world, as we in America do math different from the rest of the world.   We still do fractions and follow the 400 year old British form of math.

Why schools in America do not change to teaching the decimal system is a mystery to me.

A surprise to me when 25 years ago I found I had to use the world wide  use of weight, speed and land acreage into not feet but meters.  My job was to work with weight of a product and the Government  used the metric system.   Yikes-----what was a 2 1/2 pound of goods into American math and understanding.

Most cars I have bought that needed servicing  are worked on by tools that are metric, seldom do I hear a mechanic calling out of a 3/8 wrench.

The kids caught on when selling drugs by the gram, these 12 year olds with a scale were able to calculate  the cost, the weight and the profit from the goods they were selling. Much easier then had they had to deal with pounds and ounces.

Oh yes, in Canada I saw the speed markers  on the roads of  100, WTF, as an American I  had no idea this was not MPH.
