A Nebraska Car Dealer Had 4,500 Cars Damaged by Hail: $152M in Losses

after which two photographs of busted-up sedans

What’s this mean for you, the car owner anywhere else in the country? If you’re shopping for used cars in the next few months, a lot of these vehicles are going to end up running through the auction. Keep a sharp eye on the VIN of any late-model used cars you’re interested in and see if any of them have been reported as having significant damage from the storm.
 
You won’t have the electrical issues that a car rescued from Hurricane Sandy may have, but if you’re buying something advertised as a “demo” or an “executive car,” make sure to run a Carfax to see if it’s ever been damaged. If it was ever delivered via Blair, Nebraska, chances are good it had extensive bodywork.

In Nebraska? Do 4500 people even live in that state (who aren't connected to some college football team?)
 
That's insane. Plus, they KNOW that huge storms tear through there every year. I suspect someone's insurance rates will be exploding in the near future.

It's pretty amazing what a storm can do. Hopefully they can get them repaired and on the road.

The real number is actually 15.2 million dollars in damage. Someone forgot a decimal point. Until recently the company I work for was involved with a car lot that deals with salvage titles and they had gotten e-mails the next day about the damage and the dealers were looking to sell. On the local news the cars were being sold for about 50% off.

Will there be a lot of cars for sale ? Yes but the damage was cosmetic not mechanical unless it involved powered windows or something. Also this has happened recently to the area before. Back in 2011 during the flooding here we had a bad storm come through here and the damage was the same and I have pictures of a line of cars and some homes in Mineola, Iowa that were hit just like Blair NE. The hail was between golf ball and baseball size in Blair when it hit so all that damage was the result of about an hours plus work as the storm moved through.
