U.S. Park Service to study LGBT sites for inclusion in National Register of Historic Places

Standing in front of the historic Stonewall Inn tavern, U.S. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell announced on Friday the formation of a study group that will be tasked with exploring the LGBT movement’s history in the U.S., with an eye on identifying historic locations for possible inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.

The panel of 18 scholars will convene next month to review the history of gay Americans with the goal submitting a list of relevant historical sites that help tell the story of the gay movement.

The Park Service with use this information to determine which sites should be designated as National Historic Landmarks, or receive consideration to become national monuments,

“It’s our job to work with the smartest people around this country to understand this history,” Jewell said. “So we are announcing that we are going to launching a theme study, next month, the tenth of June. We will be pulling together our nation’s finest scholars who will help us tell this story effectively for all Americans.”

I don't see how a panel made up our nation's finest scholars could overlook it, but I want to submit Chicago's Man's Country for consideration.  Frequented by such notable gays as the down-low POS used car salesman and his former chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, Man's Country should have it clinched.

And some people can't figure out why others consider it a perversion. Hell, here in the city I'm residing in,its restrooms, parks, bathhouses and just about any porn store. I find it hard to believe these people have never heard of hotels or homes. So sorry, its a damn lifestyle centered around being a pervert.

There was a huge problem with it in a local park in Northern KY a few years ago. It was the fodder of local newspaper and newscast for weeks.  The fruits would engage in "cruising" around the park, slowly bringing their vehicles up to each other or pedestrians and jumping into the woods if they found a fella they liked.  It was a major problem since they did it all times of the day and were caught often by passing children.  The increased police presence and convictions did away with the practice thankfully.  If it happened nowadays, a pride parade would spontaneously show up in the area in "solidarity."

We have the same problem here. There is a park located within the city that actually has a great view after dark. But it's common knowledge that you don't go up there after the sun goes down unless you want to be mistaken for some queen looking for action in the bushes. A damn shame really. It was a pretty nice place to go and reflect on things while looking at the city lights.
