OAKLAND (CBS SF) – An act of retribution may have provoked a woman to brutally attack a third grader inside an Oakland elementary school bathroom, police say.

Students at Oakland’s Lafayette school knew something was wrong when they saw officers arrive at school Friday morning. They arrived to arrest Haseemah Diame, a parent and volunteer at the school.

Police say Diame walked onto the campus during recess armed with a hammer and pulled a 9-year-old girl aside.

I was going to say that it happened in Oakland, but noticed this in the article:

A teacher and security guard found the girl injured in the bathroom with Diame and called police. Officials say the girl may have paid the price for a feud between her family and Diame’s.

The child was hospitalized with serious injuries, but is expected to recover. Diame is expected to face charges for assault with a deadly weapon.

Between the female's name and the hint at her culture, I'm guessing she's an immigrant.

But it's still Oakland. Hunter's Point in SF is similarly dangerous. Ditto at least some parts of East Palo Alto (instead of being on the "wrong side of the tracks", East Palo Alto is on the wrong side of US 101 freeway)

I restrained myself last evening from speculating about where the attacker may have come from. This AM I found this:

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A third-grader was beaten with a hammer inside a local school restroom. The woman police say is responsible is another child's mother and an old grudge may have been what fueled the attack.

The school district identified the woman as Haseemah Diame, a well-known volunteer at the school. Both Diame and her victim are new immigrants from Yemen.

"It seems there was some sort of family feud and this act was perpetrated as one of vengeance to get back against this other family with which this other woman had a conflict," Flynt said.

The US has its share (and more, IMO) of native-born violent two-legged animals, but this attack against a 9YO girl just felt too foreign to  be a US-born two-legged animal.
