Florida may be forced to redraw political districts before midterms
By Sarah Ferris

A redistricting battle that has gripped Florida for more than a year could force Republican leaders to redraw the state’s political boundaries just months ahead of the midterm elections.

Several of the state’s Republican-drawn congressional districts – which one political scientist described as the most skewed he has ever studied – have come under attack by voting rights groups that allege the maps unfairly favor GOP candidates.

That coalition, led by the League of Women’s Voters, has argued that Republican legislators and staffers collaborated with political consultants to create the maps, which were approved by Gov. Rick Scott in 2011.

The case is being heard now in Leon County Circuit Court after the League filed a lawsuit alleging that the districts violate Florida’s “Fair Districts” law, which was approved by more than 60 percent of voters in 2010. If the lawsuit succeeds, the borders will have to be redrawn before the midterm elections this fall.

After being defeated in 2010, Alan Grayson won election in 2012 after his district was redrawn. The Republican party in FL kinda conceded that seat to the democrat party. If it reverts back to the old boundary, Grayson could lose again.

9. I live in Gainesville, FL....

.... which is easily the most liberal area in the state. It's deep blue amid a sea of red. Ralph Nader got lots of votes here and so did George McGovern and Walter Mondale. Lots of bicyclists, a food co-op, plenty of hippies, and a reputation for being anti development and anti business. We've been called the Berkeley of the South. (Having been in both places, that might be an overstatement, but there you have it). Anyway, guess who our Representative is.

It's Ted Yoho, who gives Louie Gohmert a run for his money as dumbest member of Congress.

This would not be even remotely possible had Gainesville not been part of one of the most Gerrymandered districts, which carved the chunk that contained the heavily liberal University of Florida neighborhood out of the 5th Congressional District and moved it into the deep-red 3rd District. If you want to see Gerrymandering at its finest, go to Wikipedia and look at the outline of the 5th.

Gerrymandering was perfected to a science in California which resulted in a veto proof majority control by the democrat party in both houses and the Governor's office,

What were you saying now?

7. "led by the League of Women’s Voters"

Just another reason for Republicans to hate women.

Thanks for the thread, Judi Lynn.

I believe that it is Judi's 1st post that wasn't about a 3rd world hispanic.

Must be a reason.

17. In 2012 in PA more votes were cast for a Dem US rep than a GOP one

Yet the GOP won 13 of the 18 seats.

Gerrymandering should be ILLEGAL

I bring you:

100 percent. That’s the percentage of registered voters who voted at a number of Philadelphia voter precincts in the last several elections. Indeed, as Republicans in the state capital pointed out during the debate about the voter ID law, in many parts of Philadelphia, a Democratic stronghold, voter turnout in contested elections routinely exceeds 100 percent of registered voters.

The City of Milwaukee having 4,500 more votes cast than REGISTERED VOTERS, or the fact that U.S. Attorney Steven Biskupic failed to work hard enough to get to the bottom of the issue? I think that both instances are reprehensible.

281,500 votes were cast in a district with 277,000 voters who were registered.

But how does one explain that Boston has 387,142 voters on their roll. Yet, somehow 501,282 ‘cards’ were cast on election day

http://www.fireandreamitchell.com/2012/11/09/voter-fraud-129-of-registered-boston-vote-on-election-day/

A review of voter registration data for ten counties in Colorado details a pattern of voter bloat inflating registration rolls to numbers larger than the total voting age population. Using publicly available voter data and comparing it to U.S. Census records reveals the ten counties having a total registration ranging between 104 to 140 percent of the respective populations.

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.
