Menu for today!
« on: July 04, 2008, 12:41:51 PM »
Grilled brats dumped into the slow cooker with beer and onions.

Huge shrimp that have been marinating since yesterday cooked on grill skewers.

Adobo pork steaks.

Corn on the cob.

Salad.

Baked Southwest style beans.

A pie to be determined later. (Probably go with apple to celebrate Ma, country, ect..)

Build a man a fire and he will be warm for awhile.
Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life...

Sounds good!

We aren't doing anything special to celebrate today....getting ready to go out of town early tomorrow moring, so we don't really have tons of time.

Burgers
Pork n' beans
Potato salad
Roasted potatoes

It's just me, so that should be enough.

Your menu is the best so far.

I'm thinking of picking up some pasta salad to offset all the taters.

we are getting together with our fabo neighbors... so in anticipation we are making:

home churned vanilla bean ice cream
grilled peaches to put on the ice cream
lemon shortbread cookies...

salad
sweet tea
Kokanee beer
and homemade BBQ sauce left over from the party last weekend.

our neighbors are smoking:

a decent sized brisket
corn in their husks
and some other vegies... all in the smoker..

and we live on a plateau so we can see Seattle and the surrounding cities fireworks shows off in the distance. almost everyone in our cul de sac has a flag out, although its a bit drizzly out there right now..

I used to be able to watch four different fireworks shows from my old apartment east of the city.  Now, I'm stuck in the southern part of town and can't see a thing.

ad nauseum.. :-)

the yaks are not going to like it though... or the horses.

We decided to eat out. It's raining and nasty here in OH today so not really in the grilling/partying mood. Our weekend should get better tomorrow and we'll hit the pool and do all that other fun stuff. At this rate our local fireworks will likely be delayed until tomorrow night anyway.

I've got a hill in the back 40 where the shootin' range is located where we can pretty much watch the city fireworks down at the lake. I live across the street from the deepest lake in the northwest. They shoot the fireworks out over the lake, so we don't have to worry about burnin' the forest down. I also shoot some pretty good mortars off out in the pasture. Heh, heh.  :-)

I caretake 160 acres, it's a tough job but somebody's gotta do it. Might as well be me and "Toots"! We been married 35 years, it's time we enjoyed it!  :-)

I have no clue what I'll be doing for dinner.  Today's been kinda rough so I never really thought about it.      :(

I'll probably end up ordering take-out, as I am not in the mood for unpacking my kitchen supplies so I can cook (haven't completely unpacked after my overnight move).

Happy 4th!  :)   :cheersmate:

Land is getting expensive.  I have a friend who bought 60 acres, and it cost him almost as much as his house.

I caretake the ranch for the guys who own Litehouse sallad dressing. Been here for about 7 years. It's great! I have 3 mules 5 horses (with 3 more in the incubator, if ya know what I mean), and a donkey, (who makes mules with the percherons).

Value is 'probly around 3 mil and I pay 'em $275 a month. It's a pretty sweet deal, to say the least! Sometimes the good Lord just looks out for ya! :muahaha:

Okay,  my menu changed.  I decided to run up to the local Fresh Market to see what hot foods they had. :hyper:

This is what I got:

2 small slabs of baby back ribs with a dry rub ( I bought one for tonight and the other for my lunch tomorrow).
baked beans
potato salad
chocolate napoleon
customized 6 pack of beer (Fresh Market lets you pick which 6 beers you want for 8.99.  I got 3 Sam Adams beers I've never tried before: Black Lager, Honey Porter, and Summer Ale, along with a Guinness Draught, Blue Moon Belgian White, and a Killian's Irish Red)

IMHO and IF properly cooked, it's a LOT like steak, only a bit milder and more tender.  It puts a new meaning into Man, eating shark !!! :rotf:

I marinated a london broil all day long. Just soy sauce and a few double secret spices. Then I threw the slab of beef on the grill.

Ranch roasted red potatoes.

Corn on the cob

Sweet peas.

Beer for me, iced tea for my wife and girls.

Watermelon and s'mores for dessert.

The rain held off until right after dessert.

Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.
