iPads worth $70,000 stolen from Chicago elementary school

Associated Press

$70,000 for iPads and how many stories do we hear on the news that students don't even have pencils and paper to work with.

You should see the list of supplies the kids around here have to take to school every fall.  Not just for their personal use, but for the classroom too.

That's what bothers me.  It's not the individual student or parent's responsibility to furnish the classroom out of their own pocket.  They already pay for their own kids and they pay property taxes.

I blame Bill Clinton for this computers-in-classrooms garbage.  iPads aren't even computers... they're toys.  The only reason a computer should be in a classroom is to teach the students how to use them.

Yeh it's very expensive. I then found out that my kid didn't even use the crap.  I stopped buying that stuff.  Send a damn letter home if you want but I'm not letting you give my hard earned money away to other people.

Hell, Chris, when my daughter was in school, she was using computers for research and such for papers & exams. She graduated HS in 06.

Drove out to Ohio last weekend to play grandpa and to visit my kids (who aren't kids any more). Was kinda cool. Although I'm too much of an asshole to be a pushover grandpa.

Sorta like you!  :rotf:

I went to school with Fred's and Barney's younger brothers, but I also work in technology. What educratic genius thought giving kids ~$500 relatively fragile easily stolen devices which will have a 2-3 year life and will require frequent updates and clean-ups by the school's IT people?!
