Not just the VA. but the Military medical complex has been in a mess for years.
Some family's of service men received benefits others did not know about. Most interesting how it works. Years later looking back, I see things that were right in front of my nose but ignored or was warned not to discuss with others.
Fortunately my Ex was a submariner on a boomer and a E-8 at the time, we the family of bubbleheads received care above and beyond the care of the surface fleets family's.
You may not know this but the more important a person in the military the bigger benefits they get for their family's. I am not talking about rank but skill needed at the time. Some E-4 riding a boomer received a bonus of $15,000 to sign on for another 4 years.
Crazy world that of the military, the men and woman lost some rights as American Citizens--------The VA was created to help the E-military survive after their duty was done.
So who comes first today, the 60 year old hero's of the past or the hero's of today and their family's that must survive in todays world ?
Just rambling about in the world I was born into and my children were born into.
Never forget it was Nixon who in the 1970's cut the money to pay for our at war hero's to get the replacement limbs and medical devices when sent from Japan to Tripler for medical care. Then to find the budget was not to big or too expensive
to give a replacement limb or even a cheap wheel chair.
Looking back I can understand why all the anti - war demonstrations took place.
We had the draft back then, no choice and our family's came home in a box or totally messed up. Bad time back then, lead a lot of us to go liberal, then along came the Peanut farmer, interesting man, no way would I want to sail with this strange man, he was in no way a man of the sea, or a leader of any kind.
Arrrg looking back is not a good thing unless we look forward to todays leaders.
Best short film of Nam was of a copter coming to get the wounded and a white man being cared for by a black medic and given a joint to ease his pain.
