I remember being invited to Easter services 5 years ago by a co-worker
Big mistake. It was a big evangelical church.

The pastor thundered away at homosexuality, abortion, high taxes, pornography, drug use, evolution, big government, socialism, the Islamic "threat", gun control, illegal immigration, liberalism and how we "kicked God out of the schools".

Not one word, not one, about the good works and charity of Jesus, his message of love, advocacy for the poor and social justice.

"isn't it amazing!" my co-worker said afterward. "Oh, it was certainly amazing, all right" I replied with that deer in the headlights look.

I have never heard an Easter Service on anything other than the resurrection of Jesus… but what do I know.

Although they are against some of these things, they do not spout fire and brimstone. In fact, they talk about helping the poor and things like that. I could not go to an Evangelical Church. Mostly because of the reputation it has.

Wait for it…

The Catholic Church is ALL about misery, sin, pain, repentance and other horrifying concepts.
They might not talk explicitly about fire and brimstone, but they certainly revel in floods and flogging, starvation and sin.

Religion is pure poison.

My friend and I started laughing. People were looking at us so we left.

I feel bad to this day for laughing at the mass.

I grew up in a Christian family. I just can't grasp organized religion ( for me ).

Then a few years later I went to a morning mass I left when the chorus started singing. I went because of my mom, she really wanted me to go.

I'm spiritual , but church is not for me.

good works and charity of Jesus, his message of love, advocacy for the poor and social justice.

Not one word, not one, about homosexuality, abortion, high taxes, pornography, drug use, evolution, big government, socialism, the Islamic "threat", gun control, illegal immigration, liberalism and how we "kicked God out of the schools".

It was just another Sunday at our church, and I'm very thankful for that.

Geez. A church bouncy on Easter in the DUmp. Who woulda thunk it?

Liberal thinking is a two-legged stool and magical thinking is one of the legs, the other is a combination of self-loating and misanthropy.  To understand it, you would have to be able to sit on that stool while juggling two elephants, an anvil and a fragmentation grenade, sans pin.

That would be the entire DUmp.

Let me give you a quick education idiot.

Jesus,as God in human flesh, willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for mankinds sins.
His resurrection shows that we too can find new life through Him as our Saviour.

Not one part of Easter has anything to do with social justice nor did His earthly ministry.

Note for lurking DUmmies:

I am not a Christian.

Today, to celebrate Easter, we gathered together family- Red's and mine - and attended a local evangelical church's performance of "Seekers of the Brave", a musical telling of the story of early Christians from Jesus' resurrection through Paul's execution.

It was moving. The fact that I do not share their faith made it no less beautiful or touching for me.

DUmmies are incapable of understanding such emotion, such beauty. They only know the visceral fear of the primitive, hooting and screeching and waggling their armpits.

Dummies lie all the time.  I've never heard a priest discuss homosexuality or abortion during Easter.  Also, the Catholic Church is pretty left wing on economic issues.  Especially the Jesuits.

Yep. I have never, ever, ever heard a homily by a priest or bishop at any mass damning queers or abortion. Never. Around these parts the homily is usually tied to the readings in some way. Not always now, but more often than not.

Same here, as it was throughout the entire Trituum.  And, as it's always been.  Maybe said DUmbshit is counting on the idea that a lot of its' fellow 'travelers' don't go to church, so will lap up whatever is said about churches/clergy without challenging it.

About the only "Christian" church that comes to mind where I could expect to hear a "God hates teh Ghey" sermon would be at Al Gore's bestest buddies with the WBC.

And yeah, I could see that being on the program for Easter Sunday as well.

As for me, and my "ghey hating" church (I'm Mormon), our sermons today were on how the Son of God took upon HIM the penalty for all mankind's sin, and made God's mercy possible for all through his sacrifice. There was no distinction or exceptions made for those who's personal pet sin was sucking a dick, or using the precepts of Marx as justification for coveting your neighbor's stuff and stealing from your neighbor. Christ's atonement is perfect and all-inclusive, even if you were once a DUmbass.

It seems the "god" the liberals like best is the one who says sin doesn't exist and his belief system is perfectly in line with their political beliefs. I'm familiar with this god, but he goes by a different name than Jesus Christ.

I've actually encountered some priests at the parish level who spoke out against abortion and homosexuality, especially around election time.

They never actually endorsed a candidate, but they made it pretty well known that you couldn't really consider yourself a good Catholic while supporting the culture of death.

However, at the university level, the Jesuits I encountered were the exact opposite.  One of the priests actually came out of the closet during Mass.
Another wore a rainbow guitar band around his shoulder.  Weird, I thought priests were supposed to take a vow of chastity.

I have met a few good Catholics. I admire them for following all the teachings of the church, or at least accepting them. But I have met many more who weren't. They put themselves above God's representative on earth, which I find amazing.
