Just did my taxes and I feel ashamed

The more I make the less I pay

I'm fretting getting a return of what some people would call their annual. Its just plain wrong that with my position in life where a home healthcare, retirement are not of a concern because I have all those - the people struggling to get by - whom don't even make enough to worry about those things

Don't get me wrong - I was there once - I know the reality of what its like living check to check, working tons of over time and still having to make decisions "Rent or Food" or my children wanting new clothes for school or even something nice to open on Christmas morning

Its just not right and I'll be the first to say it

The "Rich" didn't write the tax code.

I posit that if there were politicians more interested in making things right than getting re-elected, the tax code could be rewritten so as to make things more equitable. There aren't. Anywhere.

For that reason, I'm more likely to say The Politicians have, and ARE ****ing America. **** them all.

I am not sure how you manage that.

What percentage do you pay?

My total income was $33,359.84 comprised of $31,987.12 in wages, $129.50 in taxable interest, $341.40 in qualified dividends, $901.82 in short term capital gains (on paper (meaning I really did not make that much, because I had losses on paper last year))

I maxed out my IRA deduction at $6,500, reducing my AGI to $26,859.84 and my total tax bill to $1,833. My tax rate is either 5.5% of my total income or 6.82% of my AGI. You are making more than that and paying less than that? How?

Of course, there was another $2,548.82 that I paid in FICA taxes and another $2,548.82 that my employer paid, instead of giving to me. Making my tax rate 20.78%.

There's also income that I don't have to count - now, because it is in my IRA account, or ever - because it is in my much smaller Roth IRA account. That's actually fairly substantial - $1,200 to $1,500. A decent chunk of change, but not something I can spend now. Still, it is nice to have it for eight years down the road when I CAN spend it. Or presumably it will be if I live that long. But how much tax free income are richer people getting from their Roth accounts.

I may try to find out.

You just barely don't qualify for an Earned Income Tax Credit.

Your tax burden would go up until you hit $110K and then it starts going down. Becomes very noticable around $130K

Please tell me.  We just had our taxes done and according to Mr. Rich DUmmie he paid $32,000 in taxes for state, federal, AND property?  Making $200k/year?

I made somewhere over half that (AGI) and paid $30,000!

Either DUmmie is doing something illegal or I need a new CPA, OR DUmmie has some really good write offs that I need to learn about.

Get a new tax accountant. That is WAY too much on 100K.  It should be closer to $15K-$20K.   With NO deductions and one exemption, Federal tax on 100K AGI is about $13K.  Assuming California (one of the worst) is about $3K (again with no deductions).  Uless you have $10K in Property taxes...?

BTW, my property taxes are way higher but most of those are for rentals I own so ... I don't pay the taxes, I just collect them for the state.

What a bunch of lying bullshit.  The past two years I had to cash out a retirement fund because later would have been even worse on the taxes, once you go over 100K and it it counts as ordinary income, you have to pay out the ass.  Even if you do get payouts that count as LT capital gains, you still get raped, just not quite as painfully, and on top of that you start losing all the exemptions and other credits and deductions that married couples under make less than 160,000 get.

President Obama and Vice President Biden’s 2013 Tax Returns

Today, the President released his 2013 federal income tax returns. He and the First Lady filed their income tax returns jointly and reported adjusted gross income of $481,098. The Obamas paid $98,169 in total tax.

The President and First Lady also reported donating $59,251 – or about 12.3 percent of their adjusted gross income – to 32 different charities. The largest reported gift to charity was $8,751 to the Fisher House Foundation. The President’s effective federal income tax rate is 20.4 percent. The President pushed for and signed into law legislation that makes the system more fair and helps the middle class by extending tax cuts to middle class and working families and asks the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share. In 2013, as a result of his policies, the President was subject to limitations in tax preferences, as well as additional Medicare and investment income taxes, for high income earners. The President and First Lady also released their Illinois income tax return and reported paying $23,328 in state income tax.

The Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden also released their 2013 federal income tax returns, as well as state income tax returns for both Delaware and Virginia. The Bidens filed joint federal and combined Delaware income tax returns. Dr. Biden filed a separate non-resident Virginia tax return. Together, they reported adjusted gross income of $407,009. The Bidens paid $96,378 in total federal tax for 2013, amounting to an effective tax rate of 23.7 percent. They also paid $14,644 in Delaware income tax and Dr. Biden paid $3,470 in Virginia income tax. The Bidens contributed $20,523 to charity in 2013, including contributing the royalties received from Dr. Biden’s children’s book, net of taxes, to the USO.
