I suppose it depends where you go, if you get hominy or yellow corn.  Yellow corn is closer to polenta than hominy grits.

Still haven't had good hominy grits.  Yellow cornmeal can be dressed up six ways to Sunday and is almost always good.

Grits...like having a spoonful of moist sheep wool.

I'm not sure, but those might be fighting words here.

Has NHSparky weighed in here?  He's eaten some very, um, unusual things in his time.

Grits are great with bacon, cheese, and butter.  :)

Anyway, the worst thing I have ate was in the Vietnamese mountains and was hedge hog.  There was hardly any meat and tons of gristle.

Best thing I ate while I was there was at a Cobra restaurant.  They brought the Cobra snakes in and chopped their heads off right in front of us.  Then prepared them like 10 different ways, pretty much every dish was good.

What's the point in cooking something if you HAVE to add something else to it to make it edible?

Curiously, this does not appeal to me, and while I was starving just a few seconds ago, my appetite as strangely fled.

After you throw out the grits, that's pretty good.

We grew up just eating them with sugar and butter.   It wasn't until later in life I discovered all the other fun stuff you can add to them.

What WineSlob said. Grits or hominy or whatever-the-hell-you-call-it looks too much like puke to me. We here in West by God smile when you say it Virginia don't eat puke.  The end.

I ate a handful of fried crickets from a street vendor in Thailand, they were ok.

I'd eat bugs before I'd eat NJCher's stew.
