DUmmies Argue About Obamacare Enrollment Period End
« on: April 09, 2014, 12:04:35 AM »
This is a tad confusing.  Dummy posts FoxNews article that's correct. DUmmies argue that FOX is full of lies and is a bad source, yet they come up with the same facts that was in the article.

Latest ObamaCare surprise: Most won't be able to buy health insurance until end of year

FoxNews.com

A Republican friend of mine posted this on Facebook. I like to go over to her page and needle her periodically.

There is yet another ObamaCare surprise waiting for consumers: from now until the next open enrollment at the end of this year, most people will simply not be able to buy any health insurance at all, even outside the exchanges.

"It's all closed down. You cannot buy a policy that is a qualified policy for the purpose of the ACA (the Affordable Care Act) until next year on January 1," says John DiVito, president of Flexbenefit which has 2,500 brokers.

John Goodman of the National Center for Policy Analysis in Dallas adds, "People are not going to be able to buy individual and family policies, and that's part of ObamaCare. And what makes it so surprising is the whole point of ObamaCare was to encourage people to get insurance, and now the market has been completely closed down for the next seven months."

That means that with few exceptions, tens of millions of people will be locked out of the health insurance market for the rest of this year.

1. I VERY seriously doubt this is true.

Can you imagine an insurance company turning down new business? Can you imagine their lobbyists agreeing to this during the crafting if the ACA. I can't either. It's probably something Fox News culled out of a poorly written section.

15. It IS true but it's not because the ACA won't allow them to sell outside of enrollment periods.

It's because the ACA requires them to accept customers without regard to preexisting conditions. Under those circumstances, the insurers themselves made the decision to not sell outside the enrollment periods. They don't want everyone who gets diagnosed with cancer or hit by a car to come to them because the Exchanges aren't selling till next November.

6. Consider the source...

I believe you can still buy a plan, but you cannot get the subsidy until the new open enrollment season in November, unless you are buying the policy because of a "life event" such as marriage, divorce, birth of child, or loss of your (or your spouse's) employer plan.

The health care law allows insurers to keep selling all year. But it also creates the conditions prompting them to stop.

The law, which requires nearly all Americans to be insured or pay a fine, bans insurers from rejecting customers because of poor health. The companies say that makes it too risky to sell to individuals year-round.

"If you didn't have an open enrollment period, you would have people who would potentially enroll when they get sick and dis-enroll when they get better," said Chris Stenrud, spokesman for insurer Kaiser Permanente. "The only insured people would be sick people, which would make insurance unaffordable for everyone."

The change makes individual policies work more like the job-based plans that already cover far more Americans.

Oh that pesky law of unintended consequences...you know DUmbasses, that thing that always ruins your plans where you have stopped thinking at FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

I guess since none of the DUmmies have ever worked they don't know about enrollment periods.  I am actually surprised that the ACA even allowed for such.

If the Dems still controlled Congress to the extent they did when Obamacare passed, they'd amend it to make the insurers sell year-round.  This could get pretty amusing, I wonder if Obambi will try to affect it with an executive order.  While he obviously couldn't directly make them offer it year-round, he could issue an order banning them from participating in Federal employee group health insurance (Which has always been enrollment-period based, like other employer plans) or even reaching out to impose some crazy requirement on all Federal contractors.

I would dearly love to see some of them spectacularly bitten in the ass by abiding by this little "source" rule of theirs.  I mean life-crushingly bitten in the ass.

You know, DUmbasses, the left wing sites like to suppress information and news that is uncomfortable or unfavorable to their side.  So, you could be getting a double whammy with your policy.  There might be something out there that you really, really need to know.

It means they're discussing it and not hiding with their heads in the sand pretending Obamacare isn't a train wreck waiting to happen.

My understanding is FEHB is ACA compliant.

I'm certain that once Obama's ACA minions run some numbers and realize that Obamacare will collapse under its own weight, Obama will use his magic pen and eliminate the enrollment period entirely, and mandate ACA plans always be available to any consumer.

45,000 people are going to die every year without health care because of the lying POS used car salesman who promised that everybody was going to be covered.

Bolded because I like it so much.  Hell, as long as everyone's pulling numbers out of their ass, why not say "millions and millions of people are going to die every year..."

Essentially it's a "we hate Faux Snooze" thread. Never mind if it's true or not.

I must concur with Biggus Doggus. Right wingers are well informed unlike their lib counterparts.

I like it too but I can't take credit for it.  The drunken slob DUmmy William Pitt came up with that gem.  I gave him attribution the first few times I used it but now it can be considered to be common knowledge so it shouldn't require a footnote.  But DUmmy Pitt coined the phrase.

But if you check the numbers, over 2.5 million Americans die every year WITH healthcare.
