Oh my.

This might, or might not, explain why she's taking a Sabbatical from Skins's island.

I am a lousy Buddhist and sometimes I hate meditation.

I also couldn't get through without it.

I took refuge vows almost 22 years ago and then bodhisattva vows a year or so after that at Karme Choling.

I used to be a runner and I mostly hated the getting ready to run and the first few minutes of running- and too often I never found the rhythm and grace of it. That's how I feel about meditating. I do it, some days for only 15 minutes, other days for much longer.

some days when I ran though, man they were great. I'd lope across down the field and through the woods down to the road and then loop back up the road to home.

I've been meditating for hours every day for the last couple of weeks. It's been hard and good and sucky and just what it is.

I wish I could do a dathun- a month long retreat again. That is a revelatory experience.

4. You know, I was really glad to see what you have to say.

I have been meditating for.. well since 1968..

And still I find it the same as you say. It is what it is, and so is living.

Apparently Buddhism is okay with alcoholism and drug abuse.

And is violently despondent over the prospect of declining abortion.

Okay, I had to nadin all this Buddhist ooohing and aaawing.

Quote
A student who takes refuge may make vows to adhere to the Five Precepts (pañca-sila). Laypeople undertake at least one of the five, but traditions differ in how many vows are common to take. The Five Precepts are not commandments, such as "thou shalt not ...", but are promises to oneself: "I will (try) ..."

1.To refrain from harming living creatures (killing).
2.To refrain from taking that which is not given (stealing).
3.To refrain from sexual misconduct.
4.To refrain from false speech.
5.To refrain from intoxicants which lead to loss of mindfulness.

Yeah, it looks to me like dear old Eva might be having some problems with these vows.

Quote
The Bodhisattva vow is the vow taken by Mahayana Buddhists to attain complete enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings. One who has taken the vow is nominally known as a Bodhisattva. Whereas the Prātimokṣa vows cease at death, the Bodhisattva vow extends into future lives.

Quote
Originally known as "Tail of the Tiger", Karmê Chöling is a Shambhala Buddhist meditation retreat center and community in Barnet, Vermont .

Quote
Dathun is an important milestone in the path of the Shambhala warrior, and an invaluable experience for anyone interested in fundamentally making friends with who and what they are. For most people, it is the first extended program they attend that focuses mainly on meditation practice. What is dathun? Why would anyone take a month out of his or her life to explore sitting meditation?

Dathun is a month-long group meditation retreat.

Quote
Dukkha (Pāli; Sanskrit: duḥkha; Tibetan sdug bsngal) is a Buddhist term commonly translated as "suffering", "anxiety", "stress", or "unsatisfactoriness".

Liberal thinking is a two-legged stool and magical thinking is one of the legs, the other is a combination of self-loating and misanthropy.  To understand it, you would have to be able to sit on that stool while juggling two elephants, an anvil and a fragmentation grenade, sans pin.

Yeah, she's all dukkha-ed up alright.

Buddhism teaches that suffering comes from unfulfilled desires.

I think it is safe to say cali is a dark, bitter and angry soul. Her every post is a profanity laden screed devoid of anything except venomous emotional reflex.

That she is in such a constant state of suffering only speaks to how much she desires what is not rightfully hers.

It is the perfect explanation of how liberals project their greed onto others.

Greed is, after all, desiring a thing you have not rightfully earned.

Liberals are greedy for other people's money in the form of welfare and they are miserable because the full extent of their desire is stymied by things like GOP "intransigence" and that pesky Constitution.

You know, I'm not disparaging Buddhism, which given its sheer longevity, surely has to count as an important religion that's affected the lives of millions and millions of others.

What I am disparaging are those of European and African derivation converts to this southern Asian religion, which has no part in their own history or culture.....or understanding.

It's always struck me that domestic converts to eastern Asian religions are converts for strictly negative reasons; they wish to be rebels, they wish to be different, they wish to slap the predominant religion(s) of their own time and place in the face.

That's always a lousy reason to "convert;" to "get back at" other people.

There is no way a person of European or African derivation can possibly really understand and appreciate Buddhism; it's just too too too alien to their perceptions and values.
