Amazing how much has changed in 100 years.

In April 1914—100 years ago—U.S. Marines and sailors landed in the Mexican port city to redress a perceived diplomatic slight. They did so at a significant price in international relations and lives in an event barely remembered in the U.S. today.

 It was an unlikely battleground for the seafaring services. “Sailors and Marines found the narrow cobblestone streets littered with garbage and rotting animal carcasses,” Max Boot wrote in The Savage Wars of Peace. “Giant black vultures called zopilotes circled overhead and mongrel dogs ran wild. A powerful stench pervaded everything in this town of 40,000.”

The uniformed Americans were purportedly brought to the Caribbean coast of Mexico after the U.S. flag was not accorded proper respect by Mexican authorities in Tampico in April 1914. Congress authorized a resolution permitting the use of force to rectify this perceived offense to national pride, setting the stage for armed intervention.

Today, we just look at far worse without even a second thought.  It's hard to believe how far we've fallen as a country.  What has happened to our America
