DUmmies discuss the coming revolution

What will the "revolution" look like when people have had enough?

More and more Americans are experiencing the effects of inequality as they work harder and longer, have less leisure time, opportunities and resources, and see a future that offers their children worsening climate crises accompanied by financial insecurity and scarcity.

The pot is boiling, and things like the latest SC ruling and recent U.N. climate change findings only turn up the heat.

As a citizen who has always believed that voting is a responsibility, I am horrified by the condition of our democracy and the direction of our nation. As someone who put in thousands of hours as a Dem activist from the first Earth Day until the election of 2012, I retain a glimmer of hope that a populist movement will arise within the party and set the nation back on course. But it's really as a student of social-cultural history that I find DU most interesting and worthwhile.

The posters I enjoy the most are the ones inclined to pull back and look at the big picture, to see beyond the parties and look at American culture and society at a place in history. I wonder how they imagine the "revolution" - or, rather, the beginnings of the revolution, since what happens next depends on those early days.

So, just for fun, how do you see it? (Please post other ideas too.)

2. Unfortunately, since there is no mass, organized working-class political movement in the US...

...I think a right-wing populist uprising against minority groups, the very poor, and other classic right-wing targets is quite possible-maybe even something akin to fascism.

I also do not see the plundering of the world's resources by the upper classes being stopped any time soon. If there is by some chance a left-wing uprising in the US, it would likely be violently and viciously put down, if American labor history is any guide.

I don't meant to sound defeatist, but that is how I see things.

I see cities burning and anarchy.

6. Or maybe the suburbs.

That's where the richies live now with their gated communities and Zimmerman guards. In the seventies there were still "downtowns" representing "the Man."

Quote

7. I'm afraid that at this point - a right-wing revolution is more probable than a left-wing revolution

Since the 60's and the days of George Wallace - the populism of the common people shifted from blaming the rich and powerful to blaming the less fortunate. It could shift back and there are some signs that might be occurring. But at this moment the reactionary forces simply are stronger particularly among the white working class.

I'm sure more bat-shit insane blather will follow.  :mental:

What will the "revolution" look like when people have had enough?

Allow me to answer that for you, polichick.

I see a landscape spreading before me with dead DUmmise littering the ditches along any given road leading out of town.

They were dissatisfied with the distribution of food, gas and drugs in the cities. First there were the food riots, then the destruction riots. Finally, with no more food and little gas they started to filter out to the countryside. At first, their numbers were few and the rural and small town folk took pity on them. They were fed, cleaned, housed and those that were willing to work for their keep were kept on, the rest told to leave and not come back, generosity would be replaced with resolute hardness. More and more of the starving hordes kept coming, forcing the farmers to band into "minute men" groups. The townspeople thought this was a good idea and asked to join in mutual aid. It didn't take long for the groups of DUmmies to start noticing barricades were stopping them, miles from towns. Dummies dissatisfied with the attitude of the rural "Hayseeds" would start rabble rousing that the town should be taken from the rightful owners. They yelled and screamed, some even waggling their armpits at others. Soon, some longhaired dufus hurled a rock at the barricade. The dummies heard a word hurled back: "Fire!".

Yeah, just stop there. Anything beyond that and you're not alive to worry about it anyway.

You know, the left sits there and says "you're so violent, you're Nazis, etc..." But that's not it at all (in fact *they're* the Nazis). The way I look at it we've been talking and showing them that the path they're on is destructive, they need to wake up, cut it out, and become part of the solution and not the problem. After a while you're really not left with a choice. We're done talking. Obviously you don't get it. Time to rid the planet of the problem.

Let's see here, this reminds me of a book I once read.
Quote

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair…

DUmmies may need to re read this time honored classic and reflect on how it all turned out. Remember DUmmies you can't have your cake and eat it too if you are impersonating the headless horseman.

Come the revolution the left will eat its own just as it always has done.
