Plus there were some digs at Cheney.

there were? I must have missed that... overall, a solid B. fun movie and totally kid friendly.

Well, they were much more subtle than the jabs at Bush.     They were commenting about the movie Vice-President in ways that I assumed were insults towards the real VP, but I could just be imagining things.  :p    They didn't bother me much, but it was just something I noticed.    A group of friends and I are going to see it again tomorrow after my doctor's appointment in the morning, so I'll try to catch the comments again and post them here.

As for being kid-friendly, I agree, except for that one part that made me just about choke on my popcorn.

I love Steve Carrell. That said, I'll see this like I see most movies, after it is on DVD when I have time probably in 5 years.  :thatsright:

Inserting a quick mod note in, it's just a movie folks. ACC was kind enough to post a review of it as she has many others. The beauty of a remake even when it sucks is that it opens the older shows to a whole new audience. Even bad remakes can spark interest in generations to check out the originals and some originals are really worth the look-see and some new interest.

Well said, Jty.    A lot of people my age have never seen the tv show, so the movie is definitely a good way to pique interest in the original, even if the remake is terrible.   I'm planning to purchase the Get Smart dvd box set.  That is, if I can find the right lithium battery for my portable dvd player first to get it running again.  :thatsright:

As for seeing the movie in 5 years, maybe not.   It might end up on Hulu.com, where you can watch it free, with commercials.   :-)   That's what I'm hoping, the cheapskate that I am.   :lmao:

Thanks for the review ACC. I loved Get Smart as a kiddo. They just don't make series like that anymore. Now we have reality shows served up multiple different ways, I just don't 'get' them at all.

we never have watched any of them... they are all big cry fests, although we did watch The Biggest Loser this spring and it was a phenominal show... we learned a lot from that one. But eating bugs and hanging around in a bikini or singing badly on purpose? nah...

Well, having seen the movie a second time, I realize it wasn't quite as good as I thought it was.   I guess I was still reeling from the excitement of seeing the movie the first time, that it clouded my judgment.  :(   The tv show WILL always be better, and I've gone ahead and ordered the tv show dvd box set.  :hyper:

My friends hated it (thought the blatant sex jokes were over the top...yes, there are 20-somethings out there who think that way, and that subtle is always better), and stated we should have gone to see Wall-E instead.  Well, they're free to go, but I will be waiting for the dvd.    The Dark Knight is next on my list of movies to see, and possibly Madagascar 2.

Well, if they start the Review forum I suggested we can look forward to regular reviews from you.

I stopped going to movies over 10 years ago.  The movie theater experience had already gone downhill by then -- people talking on their cell phones, kids talking, running around, kicking seats, etc.

From what I hear it hasn't gotten any better.

My equipment for my home theater is pretty good, so I don't think I am missing anything.  And these days they release DVDs very promptly after the theater run.

I typically only see movies in the summer time, as that is when the best movies are released.   So no regular reviews from me, except around this time.

My movie theatre experience hasn't been too bad, to be honest.  I tend to wait at least a week or two before seeing the new releases.  Plus, it helps that the Regal theatre I go to is relatively small, and doesn't get too busy during the week, so that's when I go.   Only thing that still gets me are ticket and concession prices.  However, y'all know me well enough to know I only buy drinks, and sneak the food in.   I snuck a philly cheese steak sub in today.  :-)

I probably will.  I should probably get on Fandango tonight and buy a ticket early.

The trailer looks absolutely intense (the one I saw in the theatre today), and I am curious to see how Heath Ledger did playing The Joker.   Based on the trailer alone, this might just be his best role.

That happens sometimes.  I really liked Mystery Men when I saw it in the theater and then when I watched it again on DVD it seemed speeded up, but still I liked it overall just didn't seem as good as the first time.  Some movies should only be seen once and others get better with repeated viewings.

I remember seeing Top Secret many times, including when it was first run, and every time I saw it I caught new gags.

Or, like Blade Runner is so rich in visual and audio texture that it can almost become a different movie every time.  It's no wonder there are like 20 different directors cuts of it.

I saw this movie yesterday with my 2 girls and we totally cracked up.

I especially liked the scene where he needs to 'squeeze the lemon'.   :lmao:

Agreed, Top Secret is on my rewatch many times list, along with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and, of course, idiocracy.  I haven't seen MM in a long time, maybe I'll get it from Netflix. I remember liking it.

I just saw the movie with my husband, son (19), daughter (14) and her friend.   I didn't even notice the blatant sex jokes but maybe I wasn't paying attention.  We all thought it was pretty funny.  My kids who have never seen "Get Smart" loved it and my husband and I who have seen the old "Get Smart" thought it was a pretty good remake (as far as remakes go).  It was entertaining and there was a good snipe at Hollywood.  In one scene the bad guy is talking about nuking Los Angeles.  His accomplice says, "Too bad about all the dead movie stars."  The bad guy then says, "Yes. What will we do without their razor-sharp political advice."   :rotf:

It made us laugh and it wasn't boring so I would say it was worth seeing, if you are bored and have nothing to do.
