This one came out yesterday (April Fools' Day), but I don't doubt it in the least.

Study: Vegetarians Less Healthy, Lower Quality Of Life Than Meat-Eaters

April 1, 2014 3:23 PM

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) – Vegetarians may have a lower BMI and drink alcohol sparingly, but vegetarian diets are tied to generally poorer health, poorer quality of life and a higher need for health care than their meat-eating counterparts.

A new study from the Medical University of Graz in Austria finds that vegetarians are more physically active, drink less alcohol and smoke less tobacco than those who consume meat in their diets. Vegetarians also have a higher socioeconomic status and a lower body mass index. But the vegetarian diet — characterized by a low consumption of saturated fats and cholesterol that includes increased intake of fruits, vegetables and whole-grain products — carries elevated risks of cancer, allergies and mental health disorders.

Vegetarians were twice as likely to have allergies, a 50 percent increase in heart attacks and a 50 percent increase in incidences of cancer.

The cross-sectional study from Austrian Health Interview Survey data and published in PLos One examined participants dietary habits, demographic characteristics and general lifestyle differences.

The most significant dietary habit difference between meat-eaters and vegetarians concerned their BMI and alcohol consumption – with both being higher for those who consume meat.

Gotta go get some steaks!

Vegans/vegetarians are almost exclusively libs. It's no loss.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Well, the study did mention increased mental problems.

  • God help me I do love it so
Well, the study did mention increased mental problems.

I'm just guessing that might have preceded the dietary choices.

It seems that they did a rewrite of an earlier article and just added some more words.  So it's no April Fool's joke.

Study: Vegetarians More Likely Than Meat-Eaters To Feel Unhealthy
March 4, 2014 12:47 AM

ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta) – According to a recent study, vegetarians are more likely to feel that they are unhealthy than meat-eaters.
Researchers from the Medical University of Graz analyzed data from over 1,300 Austrian participants and found that those with a meat-free diet were more likely to feel unhealthy and to think they had a poorer quality of life in terms of physical health, social relationships, and environmental factors.

Researchers from the Institute for Social Medicine and Epidemiology compared over 15,000 samples of vegetarians in age, sex and social backgrounds with people who ate meat. The samples were compiled from a database.

“The vegetarians have indicated that they have a worse subjective health condition, more health restrictions and increased allergies, and incidences of cancer and mental illness,” Nathalie Burkert, an epidemiologist and lead researcher on the study, told The Guardian.

The research team was not able to conclude a cause and effect between a vegetarian diet and unhealthy living and say that further research would be needed to determine this.
Researchers also found that vegetarians had a lower body mass index and drink less alcohol.

Researchers determined that participants who took part in the Mediterranean diet – which is high in fruits and vegetables and include moderate meat intake – were found to be feeling more healthy and suffered less frequently from chronic diseases.
“They had better health and a better quality of life and fewer visits to the doctors,” Burkert said.

Nothing about the CDC in this one.

Every vegetarian and vegan I have ever known has had to take "health supplements" always including protein powder. What is even in protein powder?

Ground up, pulverized, freeze dried ......meat.

I don't know and don't care because I don't use it.

That was my thinking too. I try to avoid chemistry experiments pretending to be my food. I am lucky enough to be able to grow most of my own vegetables and have family with a cattle ranch. No protein powder here!

Whey protein is one of the major ingredients in most protein powder, but they do have vegan ones made out of stuff like rice bran protein.

^^ Oh that sounds delicious.

We've seen that hideous picture of that DUmmie LivestoHike, who is a strict vegan.  She looks about 150 years old.

We were made to be omnivores, simple as that.
