Forget the "I'm sorry if you were offended by my blah, blah, blah." Her's put even the GOP to shame. For example, imagining most haughty tone imaginable:

"Well I'm sorry I *insert agregious behavior here* but you *insert every mistake you made from infancy to 4 years old here* so you made me do it. If you weren't so spoiled, selfish *insert stream of criticism and insults here* then I wouldn't have to *insert agregious behavior here.* I didn't have to have children, you know. I could have been a great opera singer! (um...no. she couldn't. in a million years) 


Of course, there is always my father's one and only apology to me, at the tender age of 16, which will stand in time as the bar for apologies set so low that none -- not even the lowliest microscopic scum -- can scrunch below it. Imagining the most humble tone imaginable:

"I'm sorry. It's my fault your face is so ugly. You got your ugly face from me. Nobody's ever going to want to marry you, you're so ugly." Walks away, shaking head and muttering to himself, "I don't know what we're going to do about MT. She is so ugly, nobody's ever going to marry her.

Seriously, Mr. Pitt's apology might not meet your exacting standards, but it was sincere. He admitted to his agregious behavior, and called his behavior what it is. He explained it, which is not excusing it, and explaining is fine. He apologized. And he's taking a break to get himself back on a better track.

It's quite good enough for me.
