It’s All Over, Obamacare Haters! Why They’ve Officially Lost The Battle

By 11:59:59 p.m. Monday night — the last moment of the Affordable Care Act’s first open enrollment period — sign-ups on Healthcare.gov and 14 state-based exchanges had cleared the symbolic 7 million threshold, according to both administration officials and data experts, and will continue to climb above it over the next few weeks as HHS processes applications from people who were mid-queue when the clock struck midnight. Throw in new Medicaid enrollments, off-exchange enrollments into Qualified Health Plans, young invincibles on their parents’ plans, and the beneficiary total far exceeds 10 million. On net, millions more people — perhaps about 10 million — are now (or will soon be) insured because of Obamacare than were covered beforehand.

That net number will probably be less than initially forecast, but when you account for the fact that almost half of all states didn’t expand Medicaid, and Healthcare.gov effectively experienced a two-month outage last year, you have to be a fanatical Obamacare hater not to call it a comeback. Now that it’s all over but the shouting, conservatives are watching the mechanisms they’ve employed to discredit enrollment numbers shrink away from them. They are left to think wishfully that the new enrollees will not pay their premiums in overwhelming numbers, or deny that they exist altogether. The universe of Obamacare “success stories” is larger than the universe of Obamacare “horror stories” and many of said horror stories fall apart or are revealed to be ambiguous upon mild scrutiny.

"We'll see."

And it's not symbolic, it's the lowball end of the minimum number of PAID AND FULLY MAINTAINED policyholders necessary to make the thing work even under the wildly-optimistic estimate parameters imposed on the CBO by the Democrat majority when the program was costed out.

7 million enrollees?

Let's see the number of hands who believes Dear Leader's administration and/or their "data experts" are being honest. Do you believe them?

Yeah, me neither.

I remember the ACA being touted to as to help the "30 million uninsured." Just six million sign up (we don't know if they even paid or if this number is even real) and now it is an unqualified success.

Nor do we know how many of those were people that lost their insurance because of Obamacare, nor how many of those are plain leeches signing up for medicaid.

I'll go more than that. The Obama regime will claim closer to 8 million with no proof. That way the stupid democrat voters will think it was a grand slam.

When you break down the numbers that the propagandist in King Barky the Incompetent's pay you find out that the entire trashing of our health care system the $2 trillion in taxpayer monies will have in the end have a 2 million people increase in super crappy insurance. We've seen the high water mark for Obama-democrat care. People now have the super crappy insurance but have not found out that their are $6000-12,000 deductibles every year. They will also get the pleasure of finding out that their doctor and hospital that are near them is not in the network. It will be a catastrophe when Obama goes to bail out all of the insurance companies. Forcing people by law to buy super crappy insurance was the easiest part of this debacle. Now comes the hard part. We have seen how utterly incompetent Obama and his merry band of idiots are in the easy part.

And as always, if the DUches make a prognostication 9/10 they are wrong. So we have that going for us.

Salon is every bit as insane as the DUmp is, without the cast of characters that we know and loathe.  Twitchy keeps an eye on them, we have our plates full.  But, the author of the article is a carbon copy of ProSense.  What hubris that is:  "It's all over!"  Go ahead and keep thinking that.

Just like the republican party in 2008. Then well, 2010 happened and my best guess is the fascist democrats are going to be wishing for the shellacking they got in 10.

It was inevitable they would conjure up that claim...no proof will be offered and still they will say they don`t know any details.

As already stated in the thread.  Even though I doubt 7 million is even a real number.  These are just sign ups.  They aren't actually numbers of people who are paid and getting coverage.  Guess what?  I signed up last year just to see the cost.  Which was ridiculous for me, not that I would want the crap anyone unless I just had absolutely no other choice on earth and had to for some sort of illness.  So I am on of the "7 Million" who signed up a but will never pay a cent.  There is probably 100's of thousands that did the same thing, or thought it was completely free and once they learn they had to pay will not.

So the ACA will now be revenue-neutral now that the government has hit their magic number?  No more bailouts or cost overruns for subsized beneficiaries?  No more Medicare cuts to pay for ObamaCare?

I'm not going to hold my breath.

No doubt.

It's his "signature legislation." He has no choice but to hang his hat on it and claim that's it's successful. And the media is more than happy to tell whatever story the WH tells them to proclaim. There's no way in the world they're going to let this prez's signature legislation be anything but a rousing success. The headlines for April 1, 2014 regarding obamacare were written 5 years ago.

Oh, I get it. Good one.  April fools joke right?
5-6 million of these enrollments were tossed off of the health insurance the were happy with in the first place.

The 7 million number is pure optical propaganda.  The 6 million figure was bullshit and we know it.  3-4 million are policies that were cancelled.  The rest are Medicaid add-ons and unpaid.  All they have done is shifted previously insured to higher premium, lower coverage plans with increased deductibles.

Yeah....it's ... "winning"  :whatever:

simple question to lurking DUmmies:  How many of these "7" million enrollees have actually (a.) selected a plan and (b) paid for the plan they selected?

At the very best, it'll be a 1:1 of people who got kicked off insurance to new members.  Net result: 0 new insured, 30 million still uninsured, no actual gain.

Oh, but it's the thought that counts.

  • All The Way!
I like how they were pointing to all the people who were supposedly signing up yesterday and proclaiming that "PEOPLE REALLY WANT THIS!!!!!1111!!"

I could go put up a 55mph sign on the freeway and people will do it to avoid paying a FINE!  Not because they want to drive 55mph on the freeway but because they don't want the pain that can bring.

Sheesh, even the DUmmies have to see that.

I am not advocating a handout,we have too many now,but one could make the case that the money spent on the website alone (close to a billion) would have bought insurance for the population for God only knows how long.
The damn thing still doesn`t work.
