Earthquakes

Just had three earth quakes in a row.  The biggest was a 5.1 centered in La Habra.  About 40 mi east of me.

I only felt the house swaying, nothing falling off shelves where I am.

I wonder if gNads is going to be sending some crunchy earthquake news.

Interesting evening.  The dogs were really agitated earlier, kept bugging me and I couldn't figure out what they wanted. There is some damage out in Fullerton with a lot of water main breaks.
 
The USGS is reporting at least 20 after shocks.

It's good to see that you are OK, and not in the middle of it.

gNads is ready for action: World War II Civil Defense helmet with her press pass duct taped to the front, journo vest loaded with Geiger counter and canned milk, Nomex jumpsuit, and boots loaded with peanut butter and Bowie knife. At first light, she'll roll out and take some fuzzy pictures of the devastation at the San Diego Farmer's Market, just 100 miles south of the epicenter.

Dogs, horses and other animals detect earthquakes before humans can. IIRC, it has something to do aural or inner ear sensitivity.

Maybe I rank in there. I was sitting at my desk at work in Kansas City when all of a sudden I had a queasy and fearful feeling. I thought it was indigestion. When I got home and read the paper, I saw that a big quake had struck New Madrid, MO, in the extreme southeast corner of the state about the same time I had the strange feeling.

Then again, it was centered near La Habra.  I can see the headlines now:

The guys who work in construction will get some extra work.  Years ago I did the books for a construction company.  After a couple of mid-size quakes, we started getting all kinds of calls, mostly for repairing fireplaces and doing home inspections.

I know the gas guys are getting a buttload of OT today resetting the gas meters.

This is the reason I refuse to go out on a boat without a small dog aboard.

I even had a basket on my Kayak on the front right in front of me so I could watch their ears.

Something in the air pressure causes the dogs to shake their head when a thunder storm is as far away as 20 miles. Bright blue sky, not a cloud but lightening is freaky and will travel miles, ignore the tall masts on sail boats and hit someone in a row boat.

Earth quakes are another thing, the one we had 2 years ago just caused my animals to run and hide, strange critters these quakes are.

I was on the PC and heard a loud boom. I thought something big had fallen over.   Then the shelves over my desk began to rattle, nothing fell and the shaking was just centered in about a 3 foot area running across the house.     Later we found out that the quake started 3 miles down in the granite we sit on.

Only lasted less then a minute and I ran into the living room to see Hubby sitting there watching TV. He had no idea anything had happened, if it were not for the local news on TV he would have not believed me.

About the thunder storms a good 8 years ago a bunch of Kayakers in a harbor up here headed for shore when a sudden storm came up, they ran for an old fort we have that has open  doors to underground  storage for ammo from long ago.   Darnedest thing a lightening strike chased the boaters and killed one person a foot or so inside the shelter. 

I have heard of lightening going through glass windows to strike someone, and my one and only brush with the devil was in VA. when lightening struck a huge tree in my front yard. 

Now this was really odd as the lightening came from out of the ground up not down.   I was asleep when a loud crack woke me up, I sat up and the air in the room glowed a blue color and my hair was standing up, static electricity ?

Next day the leaves fell off and some limbs fell to the ground, I must have had a dozen or so neighbors on my front lawn as they told me they had heard the crack from 2 blocks away.

I will take a earth quake any day over this weird stuff.
