Now that's the kind of hard-hitting journalism we've been missing.

Updating: Reports of earthquake damage, 3 dead in Arequipa, Peru

Though no deaths or serious injuries have been reported as a result of the earthquake that occurred at 11:42 am on Wednesday, Sept. 25., inhabitants of the cities nearest the epicenter of the earthquake are reporting that there has been substantial damage to some homes and schools.

I guess for those who make light...

I hope you people are happy. Three dead, maybe, er, uh six months ago, uh, maybe I think.

Anyway, just to be safe, she's strapping on the Nomex.

2. Thanks, that is scary

I got the alert since I sign for USGS alerts

You just receive the alerts?  I'm glad you disclosed that information, because I almost mistook you for a seismologist.

Posted 2 hours, 15 minutes ago – U.S. Geological Survey

An earthquake with magnitude 6.3 occurred near Piura, Peru at 23:51:30.60 UTC on Mar 15, 2014. (This event has been reviewed by a seismologist.)

Recommended actions
Excerpted from ready.gov
After:
Expect aftershocks. These secondary shockwaves are usually less violent than the main quake but can be strong enough to do additional damage to weakened structures and can occur in the first hours, days, weeks, or even months after the quake.

Look for and extinguish small fires. Fire is the most common hazard after an earthquake.
Be aware of possible tsunamis if you live in coastal areas. These are also known as seismic sea waves (mistakenly called "tidal waves"). When local authorities issue a tsunami warning, assume that a series of dangerous waves is on the way. Stay away from the beach.

Be careful when driving after an earthquake and anticipate traffic light outages.

Christ, as if "Seismo-dyke" wasn't annoying enough.

Anyone in SoCal knows that Dr. Lucy Jones from Caltech gets on TV every time they have a quake hard enough to jingle the glass in the cupboards.  I've heard her referred to as the above since the late-90's.

El Comercio quoted an eyewitness in Acari, one of the districts nearest the epicenter in the Arequipa region:

“The earthquake felt much more intense than the ‘96 Nazca quake. It was hard to walk during the long duration of the earthquake. The glass windows in many of the houses have broken, and schools have suffered material damages. Students have been evacuated to their homes, but there are still no reports of people being wounded,” said Acari resident Carmen Bedoya.

Good OP to start on damage reports, the USGS report, is a good place to update aftershocks.

Now, that's ridiculous.

That's pretty innocuous, not likely to bring down any wrath of the bullies, but the cousin let it stand only six minutes before deleting it.

Click on the little down arrow next to the link in your search results.  After you click it, it will look just like this, and then you only need to click on "cache" tab that opens up:

What about the llamas, gNads?

Earthquake-ravaged llama. Will soon claim PTSD, move to Tucson, and begin vibration therapy of its brain.

That llama looks a "mite nervous" to me.  Could be from the earthquake, could be from...   :whistling:
