It's a cut and paste article fromt eh UK daily "Independant"

1. Why is it our worry?

I mean beyond basic humanitarian interest, who honestly gives a shit? This whole thing revolves around the same stupid US-Russian brinksmanship that the world thought had been put on ice (hah hah, that's a joke son) back in the 1990's. Tell Putin he can have all the Chernobyl-flavored steppe he wants, and work on keeping our finger in East Asia, where there's shit that matters to US interests.

::) The shortsightedness is typical of leftists of course. I was having a talk with one of the other workers here. My position on all this is that we pull completely out of Iraq, pull all the troops out of Afghanistan, start building up the military here at home. Two year mandatory service for all people from 18 to 20 (right after high school), either military or public service with then two years of 'G.I. Bill-like' college assistance, and maybe whent he rest of the real world is then attacking us we may have enought ability to fight them off. Maybe.

25. I think it's possible to reject American imperialism....

... without assuming anybody else espousing opposition to it is the "good guy." For example, look at all the folks who support Maduro, and claim that pretty much any negative information about him is propaganda, and anyone protesting him must be CIA stooges.

It's possible that America is imperialist AND that Maduro is an incompetent buffoon.

Likewise it's possible that that there are some ultra-RW types on the protester side in Ukraine AND that Putin has his imperial eyes on Eastern Ukraine, especially Crimea.

Too much binary opposition happening here.

6. You hope to stay the **** out of it.

Crimea was ceded to Ukrania because Russia knew it was largely indefensible and would have cost a fortune to keep.

Putin has badly miscalculated here. Instead of rushing troops in, pre emptively protecting Russians who were not under attack, he might have offered assistance in helping the country to transition peacefully now that Yanukovych has fled with all his ill gotten gains.

I think he realizes this but it's now too late.

Too late for what? Putin has the Crimea. Nothing was done. He lost nothing but gained support from the hardliners in Russia. He is a ****ing hero to those guys! He took on the west and the west blinked. Again. Putin knows Obama isn't going to do anything.

What an idiot.   Maybe gNads can post him a map of east Asia.

Also post a pic of China's bestest buddy and their mutual interests and mutual GEO-POLITICAL goals.

Crimea was ceded to Ukrania because Russia knew it was largely indefensible and would have cost a fortune to keep.

The defrocked warped primitive Ms. Hindenberg knows as much about Russian history as the cousin does.

Crimea used to belong to Russia, but then in 1954--1954--1954--1954--1954--Nikita Khruschev "awarded" the Crimea to Ukraine so as to acknowledge Ukraine's role in defending the Motherland 1941-1945.

It didn't make much of a difference, because Ukraine was then part of the Soviet Union.

In 1991--1991--1991--1991--1991--when Russia and Ukraine split, the split was based upon the old Soviet boundaries, which had had Crimea as part of Ukraine since.....1954.

Given the military installations the Russians have in Crimea, it's hardly indefensible.

<<actually saw them close up, actually eyeballed them, but as had no idea what was looking at, can't give any information to the CIA about the installations.

Because after 1991 Russia lacked a suitable port for a naval base on the Black Sea, a treaty was signed between Russia and Ukraine allowing Russia to have bases (please notice the plural) in Crimea, a treaty which expires in 2017, not too far away, and is currently under negotiation for renewal to 2042.

<<was in Crimea; bets nadin and Ms. Hindenberg weren't.

It's possible that America is imperialist AND that Maduro is an incompetent buffoon.

I guess my uneducated ass never knew the true meaning of the word IMPERIALIST. I always thought it meant that a country invaded another country and controlled it for the invading country's best interest.  Boy was I wrong......so, since our buffoon led country has been invaded from the south by Mexican illegals, I guess Mexico is an IMPERIALIST country, right? Of one fact I am certain, we ARE led by a buffoon.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

The mind pretzels the DUchebags wrap themselves up into just to justify the incompetence of our first half black president is a sight to behold.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I think I will refer to Dutch from here on out as dark matter.

For what it's worth I had to semi-retire my 64bit laptop this afternoon and get out this 32bit vista box.

Dutch, I figure you need to hit me again.

If it was me in charge I'd tell Putin that we decided to stop following those Start and Salt one and two treaties after all. I mean it doesn't matter now since he sent his troops into another country and lied about it. It should be that way but with Steve Erkle in the White House all we will get is hot air.

Obama doesn't care about START and SALT, he is unilaterally disarming the US as much as he can anyway. He dropped the missile defense of Poland without any concessions from Russia.

And with that we could be getting into something far worse then we have no dealing with just the problems in Iraq/Afghanistan/Iran/North Korea
