Should Olympic athletes pay taxes on their success in Sochi?

Interesting discussion I was having last night that I'm curious to know what others think about it...

In addition to the medals, athletes are also given a monetary award that is prorated to their achievement. A bronze medal is awarded $10,000 silver $15,000 and gold $25,000.

What say you...
Only a couple of respones so far, but I think it has potential.  There will be some who want 'redistribution of assets' and others who will lean toward 'they've worked hard so let them keep it'.

I think it's a case of 'amateur' vs 'professional'.  If a person is doing something because he/she loves it, that person is an amateur (from the Latin, amo), but when one is paid, one becomes a professional.  If the DUmmies were consistent, which they rarely are, I think they will come down on the side of the athletes paying their 'fair share.'

2. Reward and effort

Unless these athletes are getting large six figures, I'd say they have earned whatever pittance they receive and should keep it.

3. What's one more special interest exemption in the tax code?... n/t
This too shall pass.

If the eff-furst primitive would bother to read, s/h/it would find that they are, taxed.
I believe the DUmp even highlighted that right around the start of the games.
Simply Nadining "Olympics taxes", gives numerous replies.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

It will be according to the political leanings of the athletes. Conservative, tax hell out of them ....liberal let them keep it....blah-bah-blah.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin
