United States Marines, of any MOS or gender, should be required — and able — to pull their body weight up and into a window, over a wall or into a helicopter.

If you have not reached a minimum of three pullups by June 2014, you must fall into one of two categories: broke or lazy. Those of you who are broken: get healthy. Those of you who are lazy: get up and get training."

The letter writer was crass and awful. But some things in life should not have lower physical standards.

Same as a fireman. A fireman should absolutely HAVE to be able to physically carry a 180 lb adult over their shoulders on a ladder.

If not?

People will die.

I will say this, I have no issue with these standards.

And yes, at one time I used to carry my weight, and a medical bag, up a line with prusik knotts.

I also was capable of carrying somebody over my shoulder, and to carry a fire donut 100 yards running at a good clip, and a ladder and the rest of the crap that came with the job.

And because of the war on drugs, I had to be able to pull somebody out of the line of fire as well. And yes, avoid getting myself hurt or killed in the process.

I managed to do both of these a few times. Still got nightmares over it.

A few of my people were not able to pass PRT's, regardless of gender, they were given time to train up, and offered tips on such, and retest. Still unable to, well... and this is the reality that the Marines will live by.

These days I could not do that crap.

But I get why they need to. You want to be a combat marine, hooaaahhh, good for you!

Regardless of gender well, there are some things you will need to do. I admit, women will have a harder time keeping up to it, but that is life, and biology.

Maybe she got her "hooah" mixed up with her "oorah".

You know, there's something in particular that bothers me about the cousin's Vlada Mitty tales of being an emergency medical technician.

As far as I know, the cousin's never said where and when--Tijuana during the 1980s?  San Diego during the 1990s?  Mexico City during the 1970s?

My suggestion is that if the cousin wishes to give credence to all this, it'd help if she gave at least vague geographic and chronological details.

Wait a minute - what she a medic or a fireman (paramedics are firemen in MA, but unsure if that is common)? and notice that she doesn't mention her time in the service that she claims to have had.   

There is absolutely no way, even on her best day of daydreaming, did she do any of those things.  The misfits must all have her on ignore, because that shouldn't go unchallenged.

In 1905 the Navy sided with the rebels. Why the Navy was never trusted by the Soviets. In 1917 the army broke for the people while the police was still breaking skulls. Army units formed the first Soviets, (people's councils). As the civil war broke the army did as well. It was between the white forces under Alexandr Kerensky and the Red Forces.
 
Piece of trivia US Forces landed in Sebastopol in support of White Forces. So yes, we technically invaded mother Russia. Oh and Kerensky died penniless in NYC in the 1920

Alexander Kerensky, leader of the short-lived provisional government in Russia--the one in between the tsar and Lenin, about six months in 1917--died a very old man in New York City in 1970, reasonably affluent.

Could be, could be she is short but so is DR .Ruth  at 4' 11" and she served in the Israeli Army.      

In her book she tells of at 12-13 being taught to while blindfolded to take apart and put back together a machinegun of some kind.   Those people do not fool around.

When Mother came home from a tour of Israel 8 or so years ago she told me of seeing children smaller then herself on the streets fully armed.   Mother is 5' tall and weighed 90 pounds at the time.

 From what I gather everyone is drafted for defense and unless in a coma the Government will find a job for you to do.

So Nad's may have when she was younger and thinner and stronger may have volunteered for some jobs that did not require her to do the job of a man or woman twice her size.

Much like her "JOB" today she may have thought of volunteering as a JOB and may indeed seen some action as she did clean up work on something or other.--+

I am trying to understand Nad's  and it is no easier then she trying to understand me.

In the Navy it is the physical readiness test. IE twice a year you have to run, do push ups and sit ups.

Same in the Army, I'm sure they have entirely different ways of grading it, but that's to be expected.  The Marines have always been in love with pull-ups, it's just a Marine thing.  I personally can't say there was ever anything I ran into in 37 years of Army service where being able to do a pull-up would have made a difference, but they kept talking about putting it in the PT test for most of that time anyway.  Service is what it is, you don't go into it expecting them to change the standards or culture to suit you, but to change yourself to conform to them...well, maybe Millennials do it the other way...
