Wisconsin SEIU's message: Nice job you got there, be a shame if you lost it

Mobsters making offers that can't be refused typically do so in the bluntest possible language, but SEIU leaders in Wisconsin are running a close second.

Gov. Scott Walker's landmark reforms -- including guaranteeing workers the right not to be forced to pay dues to a union they don't want to join -- is costing SEIU thousands of members.

The 8,385 members SEIU has lost since the reforms became law are solid evidence that before Walker came along the union depended upon force, rather than consent, to keep the dues revenue stream flowing.

So the union's leaders have come up with a backdoor way to force employees to fork over the dues money. It's a novel variation on the Living Wage/Minimum Wage campaign.

Here's how it works: Milwaukee County officials approved a living wage requirement for local government contractors to pay at least $11.33 per hour. SEIU's Wisconsin Jobs Now campaign was the main backer of the requirement.

But the new law includes a convenient way for contractors to avoid having to pay the living wage — they can agree to force their employees to join SEIU.

So the local contractors can force their workers to join the SEIU and not raise their wages, but those employees will have to pay dues to the union.  The SEIU is effectively stealing money from those workers with the help of elected democrats.

I can't believe they still get away with this crap.  Unions don't just steal from the workers, they steal from the tax payers.

Years ago, I worked for a general building contractor.  They did great work and were very reasonable.  They couldn't bid on contracts with the city or the state, because they didn't use unionized labor.  The problem with the union contractors wasn't that they were any better at building, but that they cost the tax payers three times more to do a job than a non union one could have done it for.

Between that job and all the other unions and how much I have to pay in taxes, including my property taxes, the schools (I had to put mine in private) the teamster and longshoremen strikes that paralyze my area and what I have to pay additionally at unionized grocery stores, all I see are billions of dollars going down the rat hole supporting rat Democrat politicians.

In a nut shell, I HATE unions.  They are nothing but a pay to play racket that I'm paying for.   

I'll also say that my state is billions in debt for union pensions. They used the money for some other liberal wet dream on something I hate and didn't vote for.

So, by law, the SEIU is allowed to grant indulgences for not paying a "living wage"?

How is that even legal? It would seem to me to be the worst form of shakedown: "Ya know, you can have your employees pay US out of what you already pay them, OR you could pay your employees more. Which are you gonna do, Mr Businessman?"
