JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –  A verdict in the city of Jacksonville is again raising the issue of self-defense and race in Florida, just seven months after George Zimmerman was acquitted in the shooting of a black teenager, Trayvon Martin.

I have not heard much of this case, despite the fact this has been compared to Trayvon Martin.

The guy that shot seems to be a total asshole.  But some of what happened falls on the dead guy.  He asked them to turn it down and they did but the dead guy got all Posey and yelled some stuff and turned it back up full blast.  Cops really should bust ass on that music.  It's horrible and very disrespectful to other citizens.

He should be convicted for the simple fact he didn't stick around nor call police right after.

Misleading article. It refers to the defendant "standing his ground", which was not at issue in the case.

On second thought, it does resemble the Zimmerman case in that one respect. The media tried to hang "Stand Your Ground" around Zimmerman's neck, even though it was not raised at any time in the investigation or at trial.

The defendant claimed he saw a shotgun in the other vehicle. If you are going to assert that you used deadly force because you were in fear of being shot, the other guy needs to have a gun (or something that looks like a gun to the ordinary observer).

That claim may be all that kept him from being convicted on the murder charge.  We've all heard stories of cops claiming to have seen a gun in fatal shootings where the person didn't have a gun. Maybe the jury believed that.

However, the people in the other car was driving away and he emptied the gun into the car. That is where the attempted murder charges came from.  He only turned himself in after he learned the cops were looking for him.

That  certainly may be the case. All it takes in one juror.

i didn't know he shot at them as they were driving away. I thought they were parked at a 7-11 or something like that. I knew he fled the scene afterwards.

If he was worried about the guy that got out of the car, it would be hard to explain all the shots fired at the car.

They should have fried his ass.  That verdict was a farce.
