50 Greatest 'Saturday Night Live' Sketches of All Time
« on: February 13, 2014, 03:11:42 PM »
Haven't scrolled through this yet, but am hoping to see some old classics.  I don't really watch the show much anymore, but when I have it still gives me a chuckle or two.

Never really watched it, and the only things I remember is the BassMatic and "Jane, you ignorant slut".

Chris Farley playing the role of a bi lingual lawman is among my favorites.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

And one I don't think you could get away with today, nearly 40 years later.

I am 100% sure you are right.

Today, as edgy as it gets is making fun of Conservatives.  SNL hasn't been funny or cutting-edge in 30+ years.

Lorne Michaels mentioned this. The funniest was the "David Copperthwaite/Raging Queen" sketch.

The best ever?  Eubie Blake and Gregory Hines.
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

I totally agree with you.  Once the original cast was replaced I pretty much quit watching.  The original players were the best.  My most memorial bits were Gilda Radner and Steve Martin dancing.

And the other was the camping trip with the guys dressed as killer bees and when the lights go off, guys are tattling  in a sing-song fashion to Walter Mathou as camp counselor "Johnny's buzzing off... Johnny's buzzing off!"  (not verbatim).   Here's the transcript  http://snltranscripts.jt.org/78/78gbees.phtml

Let's see. The Bassomatic sketch. The Swinging Czech brothers. The Church Lady. The Chevy Chase/Richard Pryor employment sketch and Chevy doing Weekend Update while mocking Jane as she ranted on about something.
