NBC's Tom Brokaw diagnosed with cancer

By DYLAN BYERS | 2/11/14 6:21 PM EST

NBC News veteran Tom Brokaw announced Tuesday that he was diagnosed in August with multiple myeloma, a cancer affecting blood cells in the bone marrow.

In a statement, published on NBCNews.com, Brokaw said he and physicians at the Mayo Clinic were very encouraged with his progress.

"With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come," Brokaw wrote.

Brokaw joined NBC News in 1966 and served as the anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News from 1982 to 2004. He currently serves as a special correspondent.

Damn, bummer...
"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and then bid the geldings to be fruitful."

C.S. Lewis

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

This is what killed my father. Depending on what stage it's at, he might do well, for awhile. It cannot be eradicated.

Oh for cripes sake! This guy is older than dirt! Ya gotta die from somethin'! I'm certainly not goin' to shed any tears. I can only hope to live as long as this dino!

The only thing I can say is hope he doesn't have to go thru the pain associated with cancer. Otherwise, the guy has led a long and fruitful life doin' what he loved to do. Not many can say the same.

^And he was pretty good at it.
I also hear that Shirley Temple died yesterday, at the age of 86 is what I seem to remember hearing.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

It pretty much wipes out your immune system. It also causes lesions inside the bones, which was painful for my father. Usually what kills you is pneumonia (my dad) or something Like MRSA. It also will cause COPD.

Bummer! My respects to yer dad! Lost mine when I was 23. I come from a long line of alkies and he caught pneumonia, one of his ulcers ruptured and he bled to death before they caught it while in the hospital. He was just 55. My step dad made it to 74 before he cashed in. I doubt I'll come close to that.

Turns out he's from South Dakota.

(I find it comical that the DUmmies and their ilk think he's a conservative.)

They hate him because he wrote "The Greatest Generation"   They have no respect for the generation that saved the world and then came back and helped make America great.  They think "they" are the greatest generation.  Because we all know living in your mother's basement smoking pot and living off the government are lofty achievements.

Next to lung cancer, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.  Prayers up, Mr. Browkaw.
