Former child star Shirley Temple - a box office sensation in the 1930s - has died at the age of 85.

Her family said in a statement: "We salute her for a life of remarkable achievements as an actor, as a diplomat, and most importantly as our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and adored wife of 55 years."

Her films, such as Curly Top and The Littlest Rebel, have been credited with saving 20th Century Fox from bankruptcy during the Great Depression. ...

She was quite an icon as a child. They still advertise her movies.

Glad she didn't turn out like today's child stars.

RIP Shirley.

Temple ranks 18th on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest female American screen legends of all time.

She always had a smile on her face, even when she didn't. Those curls, that dancing, and that singing, was all great stuff.

She was ambassador to Czechoslovakia and Ghana in Republican administrations. She was in Europe in 1989 when the Berlin Wall fell.

Godspeed, Shirley. You were one of the greats.

Sounds like a marathon of her movies is coming.

She is true legend in many ways. She lives on as a child actress.

Saddest part about Shirley Temple dying: I learned on Wikipedia that she spent most of her post-acting life working for the Republican Party

Twenty years from now most of the Republican Party will be dead. Shirley Temple was just another old conservative who now can't vote.

This family always watches her movies when they are on the tube.  The DVR will be cranked up on the 9th.  RIP Shirley Temple.  You were one of the greats.
