On paper, with my typewriter, of course. Wouldn't do it any other way. They go out in the mail Monday. I'm sure the Feds and the State will be happy to get the money.

Always fun being reminded we aren't a real couple because we are gay and not married. I just love being reminded I am citizen, but owe more money because my relationship isn't "real."

We are just a couple of weeks from our 12 year anniversary, so I think he is in it for the long haul.

Being married with no dependents always hurt my taxes because the combined income moved us to a higher tax bracket.
 
Like if I made $35,000 and was in the 15% bracket and married someone making $40,000, now all of a sudden we would both be paying 25% because of the combined income. That's why they call it the marriage "penalty" I always thought.
 
The big money savings is with kids/dependents. When we had years with 2 or 3 dependents to claim $7,000-$9,000 tax refunds were normal. No dependents now and I feel lucky if I only have to pay $4,000 in, ugh.

3. Went to H&R Block and got them done third week in January

I've been going to the same guy for years. It's like visiting friends when I go to the office every year.
 
I give my employer credit for getting the forms to me ahead of time.

I used to wait too long to file. I enjoy having it done and out of the way early in the season.

7. I had a simple tax return

$0.00 in earned income. I only file to stop identity thieves from using my SSN to get undeserved refunds.

Voting rights should be limited to citizens who actually PAY taxes (get back less than want was withheld, FICA doesn't count), and eliminate popular election of senators.  2 BIG steps along a path that will fix our country, IMO.

I read something similar to this in a Boortz column some time back.  Voting should be on a sliding scale based on one's tax burden.  If one actually has a tax burden, and that amount is $X and above, one gets two votes.

A lower increment gets 1.5, votes, the next lower 1.

The rationale is that the people who pay the most for governance get the most say in who is elected to spend the money.

A citizen (or illegal immigrant) who has NO tax burden, and who is possibly even getting money back that h/sh/it did not contribute (earned income tax credit for example), gets no vote at all.

This applies to federal income tax burden, since we all pay sales taxes, gasoline, property, etc.

I also don't know who had the idea first.  I heard him talking about it one of his shows when he was discussing his book on the 'fair tax.'  That was some time back.

Agree completely.  As long as you had a tax burden, regardless of refund, you get a vote.  After all, the refund was your income to start with.  You want EIC?  Fine.  If your refund exceeds the amount withheld for the tax period, no vote.

I do, however, disagree with a sliding scale vote weight.  As long as I am a producing member of society, my vote counts as much as someone making big six figures and above.

It sucks, when you consider how much they took out to begin with, and that you basically gave the government an interest-free loan for a year.

But no matter, I owe this year.  Just waiting for a 1099 and then I get to figure out how many Obamaphones and food stamps the moochers get.

I agree with 2 exceptions DD:

Those who serve/served in the military and their spouse and senior citizens that paid taxes all their life and now retired may not necessarily pay income taxes.

Personally I think it would just be easier to say if you are on medicaid or welfare... then no vote for you!

As for popular election of senators... that was one big mistake when they amended that. The states need representation and the senator should be beholden to the respective state legislatures/governors.

I hear ya. Between my pension, my earned income from a part time job as a gun pusher, my wife's pension and her SS, It's always in the 4 figures that we owe. We both claim zero on the pensions and she has extra taken out on the SS. It doesn't help.
