Pop culture and underlying unspoken truths..
« on: June 29, 2008, 01:04:45 PM »

I just wanted to bring this thread to everyone's attention. There is no way of bringing over edited highlights as many of the replies are just too long for that.  It is worth a look in a train wreck type of way.  Here is a taster:

Pop culture and underlying unspoken truths..
Advertisements [?]I wish so bad the hippies and yippies had not lost hold of the dream that could have changed everything we are facing now....And I wish those weavers of daisy chains were aware of what was happening to their minds and their connections the manipulations..and not imploded in to drugs and excess, into guru bullshit like charles manson's family and the fear of the ****ing authority reinforced by ,kent state,..Oh I am so sad.

... much much more ...

1. It's about the rebels
I missed the 60's, --too young-- but I lost nearly every friend I ever had from the '70's, I was a street kid, trying to find meaning in apathy I suppose, but I remember the ones who gave a shit, the ones who fought like demons against hatred and injustice and rejection in any way the could until life took them down. AIDS changed a whole generation. I'll never get over those losses.

The eighties were weird, stumbling around decade, but this is the decade that brought hip hop up off the streets, much as punk came from the english working class. Love or hate it, rap and hip hop also defined a angry generation, and while current mainstream music doesn't have the same soul shaking effect, man, those were some powerful voices. Another huge difference. The music industry eats up whatever and whoever they can, but there is always that magic beginning in a sound that ultimately shakes the world

Oh, longing for the days....when the counterculture was going to take over the world....and we would all be living in peace and harmony....a world without borders....a world without....BRAINS!

Yes friends, the Best of the Best, the ones in which to bank all your hopes and dreams, are the weak-minded moralless phonies who let to drugs, sex, and rock-n-roll dictate their lives.

I cannot imagine a more brilliant plan!

Sorry, all you can do now is tiptoe away and watch with appalled fascination, there are some strong drugs out there and the results are rarely pretty.

I find it so amusing that they actually believe that the hippies were trying to do something new and different. In reality they were just experimenting with a type societal change that has reared up a least once a generation under various names and each time was an utter failure due to the excesses that are inherent in any type of communal existence. Eventually two classes emerge, those that do all the work and those that do as little as possible. Add to it that this time each class was ingesting as much heavy duty chemicals as their bodies could tolerate and the inevitable failure was written in the stars... the age of Aquarius… booya!

Also, we are talking about a bunch of emotionally stunted occupants of Perpetual Childhood who couldn't even agree on what color to paint a Volkswagen bus and thought two dimes and a nickel was more money than a quarter because more coins were involved.

I just can't figure out why that "culture" didn't survive.  :whatever: :lmao:

Listen to the part about LSD-laced kool aid at 3:20.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle
