2 dead in multi-vehicle crash on I-94 near Michigan City
« on: January 23, 2014, 04:41:52 PM »

Probably more...

Two people are confirmed dead in a multi-vehicle crash involving several semis.

At least a dozen semis involved in major crash on I-94.

The crash occurred Thursday afternoon on eastbound I-94 near W 400 N near Michigan City. All eastbound lanes of I-94 are shut down and traffic is backed up for miles. Traffic is getting through slowly on the westbound lanes.

Authorities say the crash involves at least a dozen semi-trucks and "too many vehicles to count."

Apparently there are also dozens of cars that got stuck underneath the semi's.

How horrible!  There have been accidents here because of white out conditions, but of course, never that many people affected.  Wow.

Witnesses said to that in this case it went from being partly sunny on the freeway to just white out conditions:-(

This winter has been the suck. We are expecting -15(air temp not wind chill) next week. I have plans with my guy but will have a 4 hour drive next week. It seems every plan we make is dependent on the weather conditions this winter and that type of conditions that causes this is why.

May those who passed, RIP. How terrifying:-(

Horrible accident.  I've driven that route many times and most recently in September.  That whole area is at the south end of Lake Michigan and they get a lot of lake effect snow.

Yep, I've driven I-94 quite often. That part is fairly rural, too. RIP to those who were lost. What a lousy way to die.  :p
