Things I heard at the Southwest gate today...

"Thank you for flying Southwest. I hope you find your way to your gate!"

"It's been a pleasure serving you. Oh, and I have some cheap Neil Diamond tickets for the first five people in my brother's minivan."

"Branford...Cornfield...who knew?"

"Damn...just seventy more pounds of jet fuel and we could have made it."

"What are you bitching about? We didn't charge you for your luggage!"

(Thank you, I'll be hear all week. Don't forget to tip your poster.)

Love it when Rob demonstrates how stupid he really is.

3. It doesn't sound all that strange when you look at it...

The two airports are very close. Both are single-strip runways. When you're way up in the air (I'm trying to express this in my best layman's terms), you see a bunch of lights. They have a switch -- or transponder or whatever you call it -- on the plane that activates the runway lights. They are not left on all the time at these small airports. So, SW clicked their clicker and the runway lights lit up. But they lit up at two different airports. In a place like this, there are so few flights that it is not expected that a full staff is in the tower...they winged it, so to speak. They had two small single-runway airports within close proximity of each other (remember, they weren't flying at 60 mph on a turnpike, they were several hundred feet above ground air moving fast). With not contact to the tower, so maybe they ****ed up.

Maybe.

Maybe they were drunk, maybe it was Denzel Washington flying the plane, maybe maybe maybe.

Maybe you can sit back and take a ****ing breath.

Pedro doesn't know squat about how Southwest runs or operates.
If he did, he'd know that humor and poking fun at themselves,  is a regular part of that airline.
Pedro, you suck.

Hmmmmm.

The twin sure seems to fly around a lot; he makes Skippy look like he's balled-and-chained to California.

I always knew that Atman ranked among the top 5%, but I wasn't aware he's a jet-setter too.

Atman was awfully close to my neck of the woods.

The next time you're in Branson Atman, stop by, and we'll go shooting!

You're such a kind and sharing man.  You are going to let Pedro hold the target, right?

What an idiot you are, Pedro.

This is about that SW flight that landed at the wrong airport.

They do not have a "switch" in the plane that turns on the runway lights. After hours, you can key your plane's microphone on the airports CTAF frequency and turn on the runway lights. And a transponder is what causes the plane to be able to be clearly seen on radar; it has nothing to do with runway lighting.

And his claim that both airports runways lit up at the same time? Let's see.

They wanted to land at BKG, but landed at PLK. Let's look at the frequency numbers.

BKG - Branson Airport

http://www.airnav.com/airport/KBBG

CTAF is 128.15

PLK - Clark Downtown Airport

http://www.airnav.com/airport/KPLK

CTAF is 122.7

So, no they didn't come on at the same time.

Pedro lies.......... again.

Poor Pedro.

Of course there is the Obama regime that has had 4 years to get a simple Web site to work and has failed. Government is better at everything particularly falling.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

USA4ME did a much better job of explaining what the general public doesn't know about the industry.
I approve of his message, like his message needs my approval !

I am just trying to step up my game.

I'm flustered, chagrined even.  After 28 years of flying I never found that transponder thingie switch to turn on runway lights.  I always just used the radio like USA4ME says.

The switch is right next to the squawk button located on the flight engineers memorial panel.

They apparently were paying more attention the stewardess's landing strip.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948
